Mrs. Biscuit's Picture
Mrs. Biscuit, Morgantown, WV Age and Occupation: 24, Dental Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Chemist at a pharmaceutical company Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Catholic Church, Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa About Me: I'm an engineer who decided to trek back to my hometown three years ago to become skilled in the arts of drilling and filling. I'm engaged to a pretty awesome guy who tests your assorted benzodiazepines by day and home brews by night. Together we have two fur children, Tsali and Tobias N. Fünkat. I'm a lazy perfectionist and eternal sorority girl who enjoys running, crafting, string cheese, good beer, and bad reality TV. We are planning a Big Fat Italian/Sicilian/Polish wedding filled with DIY details and are expecting 300 +/- 50 guests. Our whimsical summer affair is themed "Alice attends the Mad Hatter Vintage Garden Tea Party in a Ballroom. She Thinks That The Venue is Odd for a Vintage Garden Party, but is Tripping on LSD, so She Doesn't Really Care." Yes, I am the Dickens of themes.
About Mrs. Biscuit

So you’ve seen my ideas for centerpieces and linens, but how will people know where to sit? Since I have had nightmares about some random relative not being able to find his table due to red-green color blindness or macular degeneration, I’ve decided to take the double-fail-safe approach.

First, I would stick with the pattern-coded fabrics. I saw some pretty awesome photos and got inspired. (Thanks, Mrs. Ribbons!)

However, looking at the tutorials for these, I got a little bit worried I would run out of fabric. Plus, they looked uber time consuming. So I did some tutorial searching and eventually found these:

Perfect! Just a simple running stitch and a big button sewn in the middle is all it takes to make these adorable little flowers. I can easily attach a pin, as well as a little name tag on these. If I have time, I’d like to screen print the names on a neutral linen, rather than have paper coming out of the flower, to give it an extra fabric touch.

And the second way people will be able to find their table? I have finally come to the realization that I will need table numbers for such a large number of people. I did some research on different “cool” looking table numbers and found some inspiration.

Ultimately, I am choosing to have a photo shoot, with Mr. Biscuit and me holding a top hat. My sister—equipped with her brand new Canon Rebel—will be the photographer. I’ll edit all of the photos myself, adding table numbers somewhere on the hat. My sister has really been itching to get some use out of her DSLR, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity for her to practice with it! Our relationship thrives on symbiosis. Total projected cost for this project? Zero dollars if we can find a top hat at my grandmother’s house.

I’d like to put the photos in antique-y vintage frames. Here are a few examples:

As of right now, I cannot find said frames at a reasonable (I’m talking super reasonable) price. I have hope that I’ll find something similar at under five dollars a pop, though. My favorite frame is the white shabby chic frame. I think I could antique the frames myself, as long as I find inexpensive wooden ones.

So that’s my table. Now I should start wrestling with my sewing machine so I can show you some actual finished stuff. Novel thought, I know.

What are your ideas for table numbers? Do you have two ways for your guests to find them or are you not as neurotic more confident than I am?

I totally antiqued my own frames that I found at local thrift stores. I set a price max. at $1 a piece, so they ended up being super cheap. Those plus the cost of spray paint and sandpaper kept the project under $30.

You can totally antique the frames yourself, can’t wait to see what you do. Also, I love that the old man in your picture looks so angry.

If you have one near you, check out Christmas Tree Shops. I got all my frames (50+ new but look old and wonderful) for less than $75 there.

I’ve been on the hut for vintage-ish shabby chich frames that are reasonably priced. I’ve had the best luck in the clearance section of TJ Maxx and Marshals! It’s a hunt, but totally worth it!

Thrift stores are definitely the way to go for frames. Especially if you’re going to antique them yourself anyway. As long as you’re willing to look and hit up a couple stores once a week or so, I’m sure you’ll find everything you need in no time!

I just went with numbers in picture frames. There were definitely a few things at our wedding that I just wasn’t willing to overthink, and table numbers were definitely one of them.

@Miss Panther: Hahaha. I love that we have such similar ideas. Or am I simply hiding in your bushes and bugging your telephone? HMMMMMMMMM.

AC Moore has frames for like $3. They’re not super antique looking or artsy but they have some metal ones and some wood.
