This morning, I saw this movie trailer:
Pretty cute, and potentially really funny, right? I love Kristin Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Ellie Kemper, and I think it’s about time the minds behind “The 40 Year-Old Virgin” made a female-centric film.
Also: Jon Hamm! Humina humina.
But it got me to thinking about how strange it is to be a bridesmaid when you have nothing in common with your co-bridesmaids.
I’ve been a bridesmaid twice, and both weddings were over ten years ago. For the first wedding, I was close with all of my co-bridesmaids. For the second, I didn’t know any of the others. For the most part, we all got along, but there were definitely a couple personality clashes from time to time. It was nothing terrible, and I guess it’s something to be expected with a group of strangers working together.
Selecting my wedding party was one of the easiest wedding-related decisions I’d ever made. I chose my little sister…

(She doesn’t look that little in this photo, though. I think we’re standing on uneven ground.)
And two of my oldest and closest friends…

My sister doesn’t know my friends as well as I do, but we’ve all hung out together several times and they all get along wonderfully.
I didn’t pick my bridesmaids because I knew they’d get along, but I’m definitely relieved that they do.
Do all of your bridesmaids get along? And have you ever been a bridesmaid where you didn’t get along with one or more of the others? How did you handle it?
