Mrs. Eggs Benedict's Picture
Mrs. Eggs Benedict, Seattle Age and Occupation: 29, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Attorney Engagement Date: December 5, 2009 Wedding Date: February 2011 Venue: IslandWood About Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!

Our Dessert Table

February 5th, 2011 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Eggs Benedict

Since seeing this picture the other day, I can’t stop thinking about what our dessert table is going to look like:

Yes, I realize those are appetizers and not desserts. And yes, we’ll have appetizers set out like that. But today we’re talking desserts!

I mentioned earlier that instead of one cake we’re going to be having a dessert table with lots of different bite-sized treats (along with some sort of smaller cake that we can cut to make the family happy). I love different setups for dessert tables, like this one:

And this:

But as beautiful as those are, they don’t really fit with our wedding. We’re definitely going to have more of a rustic-chic-elegant theme for our dessert table. That’s what I love about the appetizer setup at IslandWood in the first picture. Wooden stands to support different-sized platters. Slim wooden trays to show off the desserts.

More like this (minus the beautiful large cake in the center since we aren’t having that):

And how cute are those chalkboard signs? I love them! (Source)

Or this:

Or this, with slate rather than wood:

Oooh and how pretty would this stand be for our little cake that we’ll cut?

The best part about this dessert table, though? It’s trusting the chef and his staff at IslandWood to make it beautiful. I don’t know exactly what types of desserts they’ll be using, but I do know the types of details they have to work with. And it feels incredibly good to let that go and be as surprised by the final product as the rest of the guests.

Ooh! The pic with the chalboards is fantastic! It’s awesome that this won’t be a DIY set up for you, too. I’m sure it’ll be a great surprise!

Ooh, that last cake stand is adorable… I wonder how hard or easy it would be to make that.

I actually made that same wood cake stand! I used an old tree stump I found on my parent’s property, and I bought the wooden round from Michael’s. FI sawed the stump to the size I wanted, then he and I put it together in his dad’s shop using wood glue, then we clamped it and let it dry over a weekend.

You should be able to tell the chef what types you would like to see at your reception (chocolate, fruit, nuts, caramel, no lemon, etc). I know I would much rather have a bride tell me what type of direction she would like to go in, or really what she doesn’t want to see rather than just guess. Also, if you bring your own stuff to display the desserts, please label the bottoms really well (name, what event it is for, your number/email) so they will not get lost and can be returned later after they are cleaned (a day or two later).

The FH is making me a dessert stand out of metal. I really wanted it to be huge and look like a tree with platters resting on the limbs. He started it this fall, and so far it is awesome. Can’t wait to post it to the boards when he is finished.

I love cakes on logs - I’m not entirely sure why. :)
