A Ring for Mr. Lox!

February 7th, 2011 @ 2:54 pm by Mrs. Lox

Today we shall be talking about rings. I will tell you in advance that this is a topic that has brought me no end of stress. I know exactly (and I do mean *exactly*) what I want Mr. Lox to put on my finger. However, Mr. Lox has really had no earthly idea of what I should be putting on his. Here is an actual conversation that took place just this month:

Me: We really should go wedding-band shopping for you. Because it might not be easy, seeing as you have no idea what you want.

Him: I know what I want.

Me: Yeah? What?

Him: No bling, white metal.

Me: You just described hundreds of rings. Is that the best you’ve got?

Him: *blink*

And so it was that we went shopping. All was going well for my pocketbook until Mr. Lox spotted men’s Tacori wedding bands. Did you know Tacori made wedding bands for men? I totally did NOT. But I knew what it meant for my pocketbook. And yet, there wasn’t a darn thing I could do about it. I’ve always promised Mr. Lox he could have whatever he wanted, since this is the ring he will have to wear for the rest of his life. And this is the ring he ended up choosing:

A Ring for Mr. Lox! : wedding baltimore rings Lox11 lox1

That doesn’t look very fancy, does it? It’s white gold, brushed in the center with bezeled edges. I bet you’re wondering what makes this Tacori, or even what makes it expensive at all.

Right, I know that it seems unassuming. I know it does. But here’s a shot of the ring not on his finger. And no, my man does not have girly hands…I’m actually holding his ring here.

A Ring for Mr. Lox! : wedding baltimore rings Lox2 lox2

There’s the famous Tacori detailing. If you look closely you will see a scalloped edge and the famous Tacori milgrain.

If you’re now scratching your head and pointing out that all the detailing is on the *inside* of this ring, you’re right. Yes, this means that while he’s wearing it, every day of his life, no one will have any idea how fancy and awesome his ring is. No, I did not point this out to him. He wanted it, so he got it. End of story.

The ring in the pictures is actually the display model. We ordered a brand spanking new one just for him that will arrive about five weeks from the order date. Then I will probably hide it from him so he doesn’t wear through the rhodium plating by playing with it before the big day.

Did your man pick a detailed ring? How about an oddly expensive one? Or has your guy not yet decided what will be on his finger?

I get to blame all of these pictures on Mr. Lox. But they are personal, nonetheless.

I lucked out. My fiance didn’t want an expensive or fancy ring. He actually wanted a ring so inexpensive I balked at it. haha He got tungsten carbide - when I told my mom what he got she said “He wanted a wedding band made of steel?”

Thankfully, we did NOT spend a lot on his band ($82, including shipping), because he LOST it 7 days ***YES, 7 DAYS***!!!! after we got married! :-S He now has a replacement that cost me $34, and it looks identical to the $82 one. Hopefully you have better luck than we did.

The ring looks great. Your man surely know what he wants though (it’s a good thing).
My FI is just keeping his e-ring (in norway we get a set off e-rings, one for each), we’re just having it reshined and made brand new looking again for the wedding.. So we saved a bit of cash there. His ring is just a simple, no-details ring.

Mr. P was decided on his band… until we made return trips to the jeweler for my ring. Watching the way he made decisions was interesting and insightful. Love the Tacori ring Mr. Lox selected!!

He definitely chose a ring that was more expensive than I was expecting, but was really only half of what he spent on me, so I couldn’t complain….and now that we have it, I see that it’s worth every penney. It’s very him and it’s quite attractive.

That is a beautiful ring! We are going ring shopping for Mr. T next month, and I am a little worried, since I told him he could have anything he wanted too :-)
I know he doesn’t go for “bling” so I should be okay, as long as I can keep him away from the Tacori!

Yes! We haven’t purchased our bands yet, but when we went window shopping, the typical looking male wedding ring HE picked out was 3-4 times the price of the channel set diamond band I picked out. Go figure.

Love Tacori! I didn’t know that they made men’s rings. We haven’t picked ours out yet… but Mr. Lox’s looks great! Good taste.

We knew that his ring would get banged up and scratched seeing how he is an outdoor kind of guy who likes to go fishing, work in the yard, play sports, etc. What would be the point in spending lots of money on a ring we KNEW would get ruffed up? So we opted for a stainless steel ring ($99.00 at Zales)! If stainless steel was good enough for his fishing gear, then by golly it was good enough for him! It looks great, little detail, still heavy duty enough for him to still feel manly!

Mr. Jag hasn’t chosen one yet - he’s already claimed to want plain & white gold. It’ll be interesting to take him ring shopping and see what he chooses!

Mine picked a David Yurman. Definitely different than most wedding bands!

Mine picked Damiani by Brad Pitt. More expensive than my dress. AND aside from the sizing it’s still SLIGHTLY big on him and NOT size-able (which means i live in fear DAILY that he will loose it) even though four months into our marriage, so far so good. It was what he wanted. I saw it like you. I got the dress I wanted for ONE DAY, he might as well get the ring he wants FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. And I engraved it as a surprise for him to make it a bit more special/exciting. :)

I’ve always admired Tacori, but never knew they made rings for men- that ring is awesome- Mr. Lox has some great taste! I know what you mean about the detailing on the inside- that would kinda drive me nuts. I’m about to purchase our bands as well, but now I feel lucky my fiance wants a plain black titanium band that will only set me back $50!

My FH wants a meteorite ring a la Mr. Argyle. When I read Mrs. Argyle’s post about Mr. Argyle’s meteorite band, I immediately looked them up thinking they were perfect for FH. I didn’t know how much they were, but FH loved them, and so he is getting one, even if they are ~$500.

My FH picked out a very expensive ring as well. I was shocked, I thought he didn’t care about jewelry. But I don’t really care how much it costs since I know he’s happy with it and I like seeing him happy.

I wanted my guy to h ave exactly what he wanted. He got it. But he also managed to like the cheapest one there… plus we had coupons going in. We ended up with a ring he loves, four complimentary crystal champagne flutes, and $50 off the lowest price that even qualified for the promotion. But that’s what he wanted!

The saleswoman, on the other hand, wasn’t pleased with her low commission. She asked me if I wanted to “upgrade” my grandmother’s heirloom ring because it has a chip in it. Umm… no. I don’t. Ah, well. She’s the only crabby person we’ve met at that place, we still like it just fine.

I have a Tacori set, so we did look at the men’s rings as well, but both of us agreed that either they were too plain to justify the cost, or DH thought they were TOO fancy.
Happy for my pocketbook, but nice to see a groom getting exactly what he wants, as it seems a lot of the time the groom’s wedding band is a place to make big cuts for the sake of other things.

I’m with Miss Cinnamon Bun, something about the secret detailing that only you two (well, and the Hive) know about is super romantic.

I love the detailing inside! And who cares if no one sees it? No one sees engraving on the inside either, but people still have it done because it’s meaningful to them. :)
