Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

Working with Mr Pretzel to plan our Nuptial Mass was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. I love the music, readings, and the traditions that we chose for our Mass and my only regret in wedding planning is that we do not have a video or audio recording of our Mass. Truthfully, I really just wish we had thought ahead to arrange an audio recording. While we don’t have audio, we do have our programs and just reading the elements of the Mass takes me back to July and to the memories of the moments. For this reason, our programs are one of my favorite details from our big day.

The covers were cut out of cardstock using my Silhouette Machine. Designing the cover to have rounded corners saved me hours of clipping them individually with my corner punch. The text was Goccoed on pieces of kraft paper and glued to the inside of the cover.

30 days before the wedding I downloaded a 30 day trial of Adobe InDesign to layout our program. I purchased some nice heavy white paper (heavy enough that I could print on both sides and not see the printing through the paper) and took my design to Kinko’s. I’ve had a lot of luck with our local Kinko’s and they saved me the headache of printing and cutting all of our program pages. We folded, rounded the corners, and glued the front and back pages to the covers. A bit of bakers twine completed the package.

Pages 3-6 detailed out the order of Mass. In my recaps of the ceremony I’ll detail out how Mr P and I personalized our Mass.

I couldn’t have assembled these without hours of help from my bridesmaids/sister-in-laws.

Were your programs purely functional or do they hold sentimental significance?

I can’t wait to see how you personalized the Mass… I feel like Catholic weddings are so predictable, so I’m always on the look-out for some creative touches!

@In the media:M-O. Is my favorite- a gift from mr p

@Impressed!: I am not sure how you can get the same type of cutout without a Cricut or silhouette machine. Maybe with a paper punch?? You can always try to find someone on Etsy who could do it for a fee.

Amazing! We are using the same shape throughout our wedding, but only for small things I can do with a paper punch.. how much did your silhouette run you? Yikes! I think I might need to make a little more room in the wedding budget!

These are beautiful!

How did you get the pages laid out right printing them 2 to a page? I still can’t figure it out…

Love them! Is the twine the only thing holding them together, or did you staple too?

@MacaronSwoon: I got the older version of the Silhouette on ebay for about $130. Money well spent in my opinion.
@lml: I used a free trial version of in design, and made my final version a PDF. Then I took it to Kinkos- they did any minor tweaking to make sure it lined up perfect.

@Miss Cinnamon Bun: The sheet of paper that has the first and the last page is glued to the cover- the rest is held in place with only twine. Having the corners rounded helps to keep the twine in place.
