Now I’m adjusting to life with a front lawn, nosy neighbors, cooking attempts, and making sure the garbage pail is pulled out on time every week! When I’m not traveling, Mr. FT and I enjoy marathon sessions of Law & Order: SVU, snowboarding, photography, spoiling our 3-year old yorkie-poodle Mokka and disagreeing over what music to listen to in the car. About Mrs. French Toast

Gung hay fat choy! The French Toasts wish the hive a healthy, loving and prosperous year of the Rabbit!

In the spirit of Chinese New Year, allow me to present to you my box of “wedding stuff,” as so appropriately labeled by Mr. French Toast.

If Roses Are Red, then What is Gold? : wedding cultural pleasanton 1 1

If Roses Are Red, then What is Gold? : wedding cultural pleasanton 2 2

See all the red and gold? In the Chinese culture, the auspicious colors red and gold symbolizes good luck and fortune. That’s why joyous Chinese occasions such as a wedding and the New Year is always plastered with red and gold.

When Mr. French Toast and I selected our wedding colors, we had to be flexible and not be dead set on matchy-match colors. I’ve always been a pink girl and can’t imagine not having pink at the wedding, however, I’ve also accepted that red and gold will somehow work their way into the big day.

On the morning of the wedding, I will don a traditional “qua” for the tea ceremony, similar to the one Mrs. Hot Cocoa is wearing here.

And eventually, at some point in the evening during dinner, I will change into the qipao which I had custom made in Shenzhen, China, which also boasts the lucky red and gold colors.

Now let’s just hope that by incorporating all the red and gold into our wedding day that it will really bring luck and fortune in the coming year! :)

Are you including any cultural elements into your wedding day? Do share it with me, I’d love to learn about it!

Oh Toasty, you’re going to look stunning - I’m so excited for you!

We’ll be paying homage to Mr. O’s half Korean roots with Korean BBQ as one of our Menu items :) And for our Filipino side? A big crazy, at-home filipino fiesta later in the summer :)

Very nice! I’m adopted from Korea and last summer my fiance, myself, and my parents returned to Korea on a homeland tour. At our wedding in June we’re having a Korean station during the cocktail hour: mandu, gimbap, and of course kimchi! I’m excited to share these dishes!

Not really any cultural influences, but we will have our elephant and donkey at the guest book table. We are each dye in the wool politico’s so it represents both our sides.

I love seeing the qua’s online, I look forward to seeing yours. They are so detailed and beautiful.

Your qipao looks beautiful! Can’t wait to see it on you!

We’re having the steel drums for the ceremony and cocktail hour to honor my dad and his home country of Trinidad and Tobago.

I love the heart shaped double happiness!
I had a QiPao for the bride pick up/door games and switched back to that for the tea ceremony.
And def had elements of double happiness through all our paper goods. :)

Gorgeous qipao! I can’t decide whether I want to wear the traditional red + gold or go with a different color. My mom has a trunk full of them, which makes it soooo hard to pick just one!
