Once our absolutely amazing, heartwarming, warm-fuzzy and wonderful toasts were over…
Toast!
…we got to eat. Now, I have very vivid memories, though few pictures, of this: we got our food and I could not pile enough deliciousness on my plate. I remember almost exactly where each food item was on my plate, and I had my champagne, and my tea, and my mimosa and… I really wanted to eat it all and run around and hug everyone. I was like, “The internet says eat! But the butterflies in my stomach say hug people! And OMG we just got married!”
We had decided to have our own table because, basically, that’s just how the seating arrangement played out, but this also meant that I felt guilty sitting and eating instead of saying hello to everyone who had come all the way to Boston just to see us. Luckily, people were having fun at their own tables and also were willing to stop by for hellos and private toasts:
Private toast from my Roommate For Life (no, we don’t live together, but yes, we still refer to each other as roommates. And are still confused about why other people don’t know who we’re talking about.).
Hellos from friends on their way to get food! My mouth is definitely full of something really, really delicious in this picture.
I knew I was supposed to eat and I think I was so focused on doing so that I filled right up! Take my advice: slow down a little. Pick at your food, even. You can come back to it! Walk around and carry a plate? Seriously: food so delicious, so much (internal) pressure to hug everyone = less actual enjoyment of food, and a very full belly.
I’m realizing as I write my recaps that in almost every single one, I say, “This was probably my favorite part of the day.” That is, I think, why you always hear that it will be the best day of your life. Because every part was “probably my favorite part” - there were so many favorite parts! Here’s the favorite part of this post: walking around while everyone was eating and getting to say hello.
Me, friend, wedding ring, mimosa = BEST PART (of many best parts)
Yay! So happy with college friends! Also, check out HOW PRETTY our tables were! And how pretty my friends are.
I can’t really accurately describe how amazing and surreal it was to have all of these Most Important People in the same room with us, for us. It’s as close to a celebrity as I ever want to be (except I keep telling my wife I’m famous on the internet, and she keeps not believing me), plus just full of love.
When our friends got married last year and we were not yet engaged, but talking about getting engaged, they kept saying, “Get married! It’s just the best! I mean, no pressure, but really, getting married is awesome!” At the time, I was like, “Wow, mainstream culture really caught you guys, chewed you up, and spat you out.” Or, I almost thought that, except that they seemed so happy, they were almost glowing.
Well, I get it now. Getting married is awesome, and I haven’t even told you about our first dance yet! Or the chinchilla and the dragon thing named Meredith. Don’t worry, though, we’ll get there.
