A few weekends ago, my bridesmaids and sisters threw me a bridal shower at my mom’s house in San Francisco. When they first started planning the shower, they asked me if I had any specific requests.
My reply? “Games. Lots of games! And mango salsa.” They’re the two things that I loved the most (aside from Mr. French Toast). I love to organize and play games at parties and showers. And I could eat a whole gallon of mango salsa everyday if I could. (Just kidding, but I do love to eat mango anything.)
And boy did they deliver.
The first game was a scavenger hunt—in our own purses! Everyone had to dig through their purses to find specific items on the list.

Here’s my sister Maggie diligently scouring through her purse.
The second game was a “How well do you know the French Toasts” question and answer.

Can you tell my friends are overachievers?
I made sure to throw in wacky questions like, “If Ms. French Toast could spend the night with one celebrity, who would it be?”

The third game was the ever-popular toilet paper bride. Being that my eldest sister Sara used to be a hairstylist and my second sister Maggie is a graduate of FIDM, the competition was quite fierce.

They even gave her a little flower girl!

Herve Leger inspired-dress. Tres chic! I like!

Roses and a pink sash. A girl’s best friend.
It was so hard to choose a winner, but in the end, I went with the bride who wore a pink sash and lots of roses, because I could see myself in a dress like that!

And finally, the tables were turned and all eyes were on me as I was blindfolded and instructed to go through my luggage and get dressed in the dark for a romantic dinner with Mr. French Toast. I remember rummaging through the luggage and feeling for the pieces, trying to make out what they were, while I could hear ruckus of laughter in the background.

Would Mr. French Toast take me to dinner dressed like this?
Then it was finally time to open the gifts. Before I did so, I said a few words of thanks to all the guests at the shower for making it so memorable, to my mom and sisters for always supporting me, and to my bridesmaids for throwing such a successful shower. By the end of my speech, my voice was wavering and my eyes were welling with tears. If the bridal shower is any indication of how I’ll feel on my wedding day, then I need to make sure my bridesmaids carry plenty of tissue.
By the way, mango wasn’t in season, so my sister used pineapple for the salsa—and it was a HIT! There was not a single scoop left at the end of the shower, along with the raspberry cupcakes, sushi, tea sandwiches, chicken wings and of course, french toast.

I’m a big gamer and always on the prowl for more ideas, so share what kind of games you played at your shower with the hive!
