Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.
About Mrs. Bacon

At First Sight

February 9th, 2011 @ 5:00 pm by Mrs. Bacon

First look pictures are some of my all-time favorites. I look forward to recaps so that I can see those delightful snapshots of the couple’s private first moment when they are so full of anticipation and excitement. It’s one of those moments when the couple realizes that all the planning, all the stress, all the drama was worth it because the day that they get married has finally arrived. I just love them.

Clearly, that means that the Bacons are definitely doing a first look on our big day. There are really two main reasons (other than my love of those photos):

  1. I’m a huge crier and it makes more sense in the schedule. I cry at strangers’ weddings, onions, last days of work, kids’ movies, sappy commercials, and on the rare occasion, simply because someone else is tearing up. It should be no surprise that I am going to cry as I walk down the aisle as all the stress melts away and I am taking those final steps toward being married. I’d really like to get all those ugly tears out of the way in a private moment with the Baconator.
  2. We are having an evening ceremony because our venue rents in 6 hour blocks, so we wouldn’t have a chance to take lots of pictures if we waited until the end of the day. I’ve always dreamed of getting those scenic (and yes, overdone) photos at Chicago landmarks, and there won’t be enough time during cocktail hour to hit up the Bean, Wrigley Field (for the mister), Mag Mile and the amazing Kinzie Street bridge.

But you see, we don’t have a beautiful garden to be photographed in like Mrs Barrettes or Mrs Hermit Crab. We just have this:

I am literally freaking out (on the inside) that instead of magical, “can’t-wait-to-share-with-the-Hive” photos, I’m going to end up with the two of us kissing in front of a dumpster. We are doing all of our getting ready in the hotel, so maybe we could do something in a suite or at the elevators, but I’m still worried that we won’t be able to get that moment that I so love. What if it’s ruined because a truck drives by? Or what if he sees me and the lighting sucks in the dark hotel room that the pics of that moment don’t turn out?

Are you doing a first look? Where is it going to be?

I don’t remember where you’re hotel and reception are but I’m sure there’s an amazing spot nearby to have your first look. I’m so in love with Chicago so I’d be happy to help you think of one!

I looove first looks. We recently decided that we are DEF going to try to make it happen. I think we are going to do it on the rooftop terrace… we’ll see.

I’m sure you’ll find somewhere beautiful to do it. I’m sure your photog will have some good ideas :D

Calm down! :) This is a lovely area to do first looks - just think of seeing him in the cross walk! Or by that lovely brick building! (Wouldn’t all that brick be wonderful with your beautiful dress!) Some of my favorite first look pictures are on city streets - everyone is so busy in their own lives and then bam! Bride and Groom! I think it’ll all work out just wonderfully! I’m excited to see them! :D

I would love to do a first look, but the FI would rather wait.

I love your setting actually, how real! Also, what you can’t see in my photos are all the strangers who just happened to be at the Garden that day for a visit…so it wasn’t really as secluded as it seems - but to us, there were only two people there :). Can’t wait to see your first look photos, they are some of my favorites too!

I was so anti first look, but after seeing so many first look photos and the reasoning behind it I’m starting to sway. FH will more than likely be AFL forever, but maybe I’ll make him look at these pics and try to get him to come to (in his mind) “the dark side”. I love Chi Town! You will have gorgeous photos no matter what, Chicgao is amazing and I agree with An Alaskan Bride, 1st look pics on the streets are fun!

I love city settings! You should go scope out the area and find an interesting back drop, so you get more excited about it, city shoots usually have endless possibilities!

Don’t freak out! I definitely think you could find a beautiful private spot in your hotel if you don’t want to do the cityscape. Just remember the moment is about you and Baconator, the background is just that…background.

We started out going the traditional route, but all the photos (and our timeline) swayed us over and now we can’t wait for that moment. We’re going to meet in a vineyard. I think you can have very cool urban photos, though, in your setting–maybe there are other places within the surounding blocks?

A good photog will make it look perfect!

We are definitely doing a first look. As much as I’d like to plan the location and details, I think it’s okay if I let go of controlling (for once) and just live in the moment.

Bacon I seriously love city shots. I’m sure you can find something perfect near the hotel. Just scope it out a little!

I would try to do some lakefront pics since you’re on the north side of the city and not far from the beach!

I hear ya on the crying at everything. But let me warn you that just because you cry at your first look doesn’t mean you won’t cry at the ceremony (trust me!)

I think the elevator idea is cute! With him standing in front of the doors with his back to the doors. That way the photographer can get a picture of the doors opening with you behind him! I think that would be so cute! But hey that might just be me!

I love first look photos! What I love most about them is the expressions on the bride and grooms faces, that’s the moment you are really trying to capture so I wouldn’t worry about the exact location too much. And the city shots you posted above are beautiful too!

I love urban first looks - there’s so much beauty in the city, even if it’s a different kind of beautiful than a winery or rose garden! Don’t fret - you’ll find the perfect place. :)
