About Mrs. Lox

My Bridal Vision

February 9th, 2011 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Lox

You may have noticed that I wear glasses. I mean, you may not have either. In which case, let me help you. Here’s my profile picture for the ‘bee:

My Bridal Vision : wedding baltimore beauty Lox1 lox1

Look at the lovely glasses!

And here’s the truth about me and my glasses. I love them madly. I choose my frames very carefully, and these are definitely my favoritest frames ever. I am thrilled to wear them every day. And I’d like to wear them in my wedding.

Because they’re me, because I’m naked without them, just because!

So we’re all decided then, right? Well, that wouldn’t make for fun blogging now, would it? Of course it’s not that simple. Let’s see if you can guess why from this engagement picture:

My Bridal Vision : wedding baltimore beauty Lox2 lox2

See anything interesting in this picture?

Let me help you. I am wearing the exact same glasses in both pictures. One is taken inside, and the other outside on a sunny day. You have seen it by now…I have Transitions lenses. Normally this works out very well for me. But it tends to backfire when you think about our gorgeous afternoon May wedding. Outside. In the sun. Right…I don’t want to be wearing sunglasses in all of my ceremony pictures.

And so I faced the same dilemma as so many bees before me. And I did something that I still don’t really care for. I got contacts. My eye doctor assures me I am not being vain. He wants me to wear them all the time now because my vision is actually better with the contacts than with glasses. Even with the exact same prescription.

The other night I was trying them out for the first time around the house. Just as I frequently forget my glasses are on my face, I totally forgot the contacts were in my eyes. Except every time I passed a mirror, I was startled to see this:

My Bridal Vision : wedding baltimore beauty Lox36 lox3

Naked. Face.

OK, so honestly I think this picture is a bit misleading. What I see in the mirror is naked face. That picture looks normal. But I swear, my face is NAKED. I am actually not disturbed by that picture at all, but my reflection in the mirror is quite startling. NAKED FACE, yo. I miss my glasses. Mr. Lox thinks I’m nuts. It’s OK if you agree. But I swear it only looks OK because I am well versed in the correct angle from which to take a picture. And how far to jut out my chin to make sure there’s only one of them. (Don’t laugh. It’s a skill.)

Are you a glasses-wearing bride, or are you a bride who chose contacts instead for her big day? Or is this a total nonissue for you, but you might have some words of wisdom for me? Spill it.

I think you look very beautiful sans glasses. I don’t know if this is in the budget but could you possibly get a pair of glasses that are not transitional, or maybe buy a pair of cute nonprescription glasses and wear them with your contacts so you don’t feel naked?

I personally wear contacts and absolutely love them because I find them much easier to function with in my day to day life. Maybe ask your SO what he feels is more you and if he agrees that you look more yourself in glasses see if you can find a compromise.

As someone who doesn’t know you, I like you better without glasses!
I hate my glasses because my prescription is so high and with astigmatism that 90% of the glass styles I like I can’t get in my prescription. :(

This made me laugh. I get it! I’ve worn glasses since the third grade, but I’ve also worn contacts a lot since high school. I go back and forth with which I wear more often, depending if I’ve gotten my contact prescription renewed or if I keep waking up too late to put them in (hard to do with bleary eyes). It can definitely look odd to you when you are used to wearing one and switch to the other.

I’m a contacts wearer myself, but sometimes enjoy sporting my glasses (they are very stylish after all!).

IMHO - I think you look awesome without the glasses, just sayin’

Oh, but I’ll definitely make sure to have contacts for my wedding day. Glasses slide down my nose too much, so they are not usually centered on my eyes. Also, dirty and reflection-y.

Also, you look great both ways. I can understand the desire to look “you”, but with the Transitions lenses, I do think your only options are contacts, or, um, replacing the lenses in your glasses for a while.

I’m having the same issue! I told myself, no matter what, I will look gorgeous on my day, because my happiness of getting married will radiate thru the pics… glasses or no glasses :)

I had a friend with transitions and I vowed to never get them for that very reason- she didn’t mind them but I thought it was weird that her glasses appeared so much darker than anyone else’s in varying lights. Even in indoor shots, if the lights were particularly bright, it looked like she was wearing sunglasses indoors. It just seemed off.
I do wear regular glasses and, like you, I don’t feel like my face looks the same without them. My FI thinks so, too. (We both wear glasses, though he takes his off more than I do.) I may take them off for a few of my bridal portraits, but I plan on wearing them for the majority of the day.

I like you with and without glasses! I think it’s most important that you just feel like you on your wedding day!

Also, do you know it is National Bagel and Lox day today?!

You could always wear the glasses inside the reception once the sun/transition part of the day is over. Then you have the best o’both worlds! (Also you’re lucky to rock BOTH looks!)

Perhaps you could buy regular, non-transitional lenses for your glasses on your wedding day?

Yay for glasses-wearing brides!

I was a glasses bride so I know how you feel. My mom desperately wanted me to go glasses free but I knew I wouldn’t feel right without them.

Would it be at all in the budget to get a second pair of frames? Warby Parker (warbyparker.com) has frames and lenses for less than $100 and they’ll send you a few pairs to try before you purchase so you’ll know which ones you want. And when you buy they donate a pair, kind of like Toms. I’ve never bought from them myself but a friend has and was really pleased.

I just got contacts in preparation for my wedding too. I love my glasses, and I wear them more often than not, but wanted to be able to see my FI at the end of the aisle without huge plastic frames. I actually like the way I look better in glasses, and getting used to the contacts has been a struggle, but it will be worth it on the big day.

Plus, it’s nice to have options!

Adjusting to non-glasses face is tough; it looks odd to those of us who normally wear glasses. But I like your naked face! I wear glasses 90% of the time. The other 10% is vacations or other times when fashionable cheapie sunglasses are needed or yoga class (no way those puppies would stay put through all of those contortions).

Love the bunny ears - Mr. Liz is too cute!

I’ll be wearing my contacts, but then I wear them about 1/3 of the time anyways. I will prefer the way I look in my contacts.

Ah, transition lenses. Mr CB has always had them, and he’s wearing ’sunglasses’ in all our outdoor engagement photos. Neither of us wears contacts, or wants to start now (I used to, but my eyes are just too. dry.) so I think we’re going to get him a second pair of glasses with regular lenses.

I like your ‘naked’ face! I can def. see the dilema though, if you don’t feel like you look like ‘you’. I like Jag’s suggestion of wearing your glasses for the reception. (It’s indoors right?)

I’ve been a contacts wearer since 6th grade and only wear my glasses right before bedtime and in the morning. I actually have had the same glasses since 8th grade. I’d love an upgrade and I love the style of your frames!

I wear contacts all the time and so I have the opposite problem, I feel weird when I actually wear my glasses. I tried wearing glasses for awhile but I kept getting motion sickness because I’m weird and like to look in a million different directions all the time. So for me contacts were an easy choice for my wedding day.

Contacts do take some time to get used to but once you do they are wonderful!
