Mrs. Pancakes's Picture
Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst Engagement Date: March 12, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Casa Punto de Vista About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!
About Mrs. Pancakes

A few months ago I discovered Ouma’s Etsy shop and fell in love. It doesn’t hurt that her styling is crazy amazing. It’s so ethereal and romantic…almost bridal, even.

So for a couple weeks I was totally obsessed with the idea of having a tutu-inspired reception dress…I knew I couldn’t afford to spend $200, but I could certainly spend $50, right? Turns out reasonably priced tutus are hard to come by…le sigh.

Basically anything you can get for $50 doesn’t have the volume of a $200 tutu. I was defeated. I was disappointed but able to convince myself that a tutu was ridiculous for a woman my age. (Yes, I recognize that I am only 26!) Then I saw this post on Southern Weddings and felt that tutu-longing ache in the pit of my stomach.

So I am just putting it out in the universe. If it works out, it works out. If it doesn’t, it was never meant to be. We’ll see what happens!

Is there anything you really really want for your wedding even though you know it doesn’t make much sense? What is it about weddings that make them such a good excuse for indulging these desires?

There are a ton of tutorials online. They’re super easy to make too. You don’t even have to know how to sew.

I actually have a dress I’m trying to find a home for. I got it from Light in the Box, and it’s a bit too tulle-y for me. I don’t know if it’ll fit you but it’s champagne, and just will need a eyelet hook sewn into the back. PM if you’re interested.

I share your LOVE for tutu’s. I have been obsessed with them my whole life. I bought this dress as my reception dress and I’m more excited about it than I am about my actual wedding dress.

I love tutu’s so much! I used to take ballet lessons and would love to incorporate a tutu into the reception (not for that price though haha) ;)

I don’t think tutu’s have an age restriction. Go for it! It may take some budget rearranging, but if it’s something you really want make it work!

Do what Mrs. Poodle did & make it! Hers was absolutely too cute!! And VERY inexpensive. Or talk to a seamstress & get it made. Just talk talk talk about it, you never know who knows someone who knows someone! Good luck!

My wedding dress has a full tulle skirt. It’s tea length and makes me feel like a ballerina and I love it!

If you want a tutu, go for it! When are you ever going to get another great excuse to wear one?

OMG…I was JUST looking at tutus the other day!!! I say totally go for it!

I don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, but this seemed to be more in your price range (and mine too) and they look pretty full. Also, the model in the pic is wearing what looks like the bustier from DB and I think it looks perfect!

I just got my reception dress - a tutu-like dress - from Sarah Seven. I put it on, and was like, Woah. This is like a ballerina. As a bride though, I know we can get away with it!

I love tutus so much. But yeah, crazy expensive! I have hope that I’ll be able to find a cool dress for under $150 for my rehearsal dinner though.
