Ms Cheetah's Picture
Ms. Cheetah, Los Angeles/Palm Springs Age and Occupation: 31, Artist, Educator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, TV Finance Engagement Date: April 2010 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Viceroy About Me: I’m a silly, sassy lady with a compulsion to create. I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Here Comes the Bride…

February 11th, 2011 @ 11:09 am by Ms Cheetah

Sixteen Candles is one of my favorite movies—if you haven’t seen, it stop reading this blog right this second and go watch it.

Okay, you’re back? Isn’t the movie awesome? See, I told you it was good. Okay, back to the post.

Jake Ryan Awaits (en Español)

The ending gets me every time.

Sam is walking out of the church after her sister’s wedding when all the cars starting driving away to reveal Jake Ryan waiting there for her. So now every time I hear the song from that scene it makes me melt—it’s the excitement and romance of seeing the guy you love and knowing he’s there for you. That is exactly how I want to feel when I walk down the aisle towards Mr. Cheetah. So, it was decided pretty early on the I would be walking down the aisle to If you Were Here by the Thompson Twins.

The only problem? The lyrics. The song starts: “If You Were/I Could Deceive You.” Um, yeah…not exactly the words I want to hear at the start of my wedding ceremony. So I’m on the hunt for a lyric-less version of the same song. So far I’ve got nothing. We do know a couple audio engineers, but it’s unclear if they can remove the vocals from the song file we have. Any other ideas on where I can find this song without the vocals?

Oh, and just for fun, check out this shirt:

I have major love for using 80’s songs in weddings (can’t hear the song, at work). We used “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers.

Can you have the first line faded out so the song starts with the second line? Audio engineers should be able to that–otherwise maybe go orchestral with it and have a local college orchestra arrange it and record it?!
GREAT SONG CHOICE!!

Have you tried to see if there is a karaoke version of the song? I swear, some of those karaoke bars have every song ever written.

Hmmm….I also LOVE 16 candles. Jake Ryan is the dreamiest.
I checked on itunes, and the Carey Brothers have a version with at least 30 seconds of music without lyrics. You might be able to loop it? It’s very pretty.

Is it really important to you to have all the original ’80s instrumentals? If not, maybe you could have a musical friend learn it on keyboard/guitar/whatever and record it for you.
Mr. Panther knows a few people who have a TON of the original ProTools tracks from old songs … it seems unlikely that this song would be out there, but who knows! I’ll ask him to look. :)

Thank you, Hive, you are the best!
@TheFutureMcBride: Love it!
@akcd: @Misslizzy: Great idea! I’m looking now, but I guess people don’t like to sing along to If You Were Here…
@Jen4414: Thank you! I just bought tickets too!
@Miss Panther: You are a super star, Panther! Thanks!

Ummm I’ll admit it. I own a “I <3 Jake Ryan” shirt with his picture on it. He’s still my dream guy..shhh…don’t tell. Love it! I am sure you know that the Cary Brothers do an awesome performance of this song. The vitamin String Quartet does a lot of covers like this. I would check them out…

Go to youtube and look for a karaoke version of the song. I know it sounds funny, and you have to search for a vid with GOOD audio. But! If/once you find it, go to this site:

http://www.listentoyoutube.com/index.php

and follow the instructions there which should hopefully leave you with a lyric-less, usable version of the song! :D

I hope this helps!

There are so many songs that I wanted to use but without the lyrics. I hope you can figure this out, that would be an EPIC song to use! Jake Ryan, swooooooon!
