Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

A Napa Fairytale: Cocktail Hour

February 11th, 2011 @ 6:08 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

Even if you don’t necessarily want a cocktail hour, it happens anyway because after sitting through a ceremony, guests are ready to stand up and socialize for a bit. They aren’t quite ready to go and sit back down for dinner.

While our cocktail hour didn’t really last an hour, it was the perfect time for my costume change and for everyone to mingle around the winery. We offered three wines in the lower tasting room (directly behind where we stood for the ceremony): 2009 Early Harvest White Riesling, 2008 Gamay Rouge, and 2008 Amador Ridge Zinfandel. Each wine an easy favorite of ours.

Our wedding advice Mad-Lib was a hit and I received an impressive collection of both hilarious, naughty ones and sweet and serious ones. In my mind these would be pinned to a corkboard and placed in a book at a later date in lieu of a guestbook, but things don’t always go as you plan them. I forgot the push pins and guests would end up writing well-wishes on the board. I should have had a guestbook as a back-up.

We also had bread, fruit, and cheese platters displayed in the tasting room, and although neither Mr. Barrettes or I ever saw them, we heard they were a hit. Again, if I could have been everywhere at once I would have. Forty minutes to just chill and drink wine would have been nice, but silly me had to be cool and change into a different dress. You win some, you lose some.

About the time I re-joined the party, the doors to the barrel room were opened to reveal our dinner setting and dance floor.

Lots of good stuff happened in this room and I’m excited to start sharing our fun reception with you! But first, I return to the courtyard as the Breezy Bride in her custom-made Marchesa-inspired dream dress!

I’m really happy our ceremony and reception were at the same place. Not having to transport people to a new venue really saves time (and $$$).

Did you hold your ceremony and reception at the same venue?

Wow, that’s a really nice backdrop. Can’t wait for the next installation but knowing you, you won’t fail to deliver. I really really love mad libs. I don’t suppose you have a template to share with the bee? Oh, and I can’t wait to see the second dress. :) I am having my reception and ceremony at the same place. Saves time and money.

We had ours about a 5 minute walk from one and the other. Because we did all our photos first it was a breeze walking with all our guests to our reception! :)

Your room looks absolutely amazing though!!! so soft and romantic. Cant wait to see more pics!

How gorgeous! I love how you had all the wine barrels as the walls. What a beautiful wedding all the way so far.

Everything will be in the same location for our wedding. It made the most sense financially and logistically. And we loved our venue so much, why would we leave?

CANNOT wait to see the custom Marchesa-inspired gown!! *drool* The cocktail hour photos have this amazing, romantic glow. Sigh.

The Gamay Rouge was my favorite wine from V. Sattui. I brought a bottle back to Canada (stupid border regulations prevented me from bringing a whole case!). What a fantastic venue. Love your wedding Mrs. Barrettes!

I am really enjoying following your recaps! Everything is so gorgeous. Would you happen to have a full view photo of those cocktail hour lantern/flower display pieces? They are really beautiful and I would be interested to know what they consisted of.
