I still can’t believe I’m writing to you as a bee. I came across this blog years ago and, like many of you reading, began following all the mysterious ladies who posted as exotic fruits and cuddly creatures. Way before I was engaged.

Um.

OK, let me explain. Mr. Crepe and I met first semester of our freshman year at art school—he was a bookish and seemingly shy boy who wore wool sweaters. I was a girl who, within the first week of school, had gotten three additional piercings and dyed her hair red. We were not an obvious match, to say the least.

We had been introduced by a mutual friend who I was sort of seeing at the time. It wasn’t serious and was over by the time Mr. Crepe honorably faced Mutual Friend Crepe and told him of his intentions to pursue me; there may have been a bit of drama. He wasn’t the only one to take some heat; I too had to endure some trash talking, which finally culminated in a confrontation with Mutual Friend Crepe at the Cheesecake Factory during a birthday party. Tears were spilled. It was all very dramatic.

But once all of that was over, we started our relationship and never looked back.

We knew, probably within the month, that this was the Real Thing. We shared similar values and faiths, as well as a love for books and art. We laughed ALL the time.

We couldn’t stop sharing our adventures as baby Crepes.

We even talked about marriage and kids pretty early on, so it seemed like we were going to get married right out of school.

Wait, when did we graduate? Oh, right. In 2004. So for those of you who did the math, we celebrated our 10-year dating anniversary last month. That’s a decade, folks.

When I came across Weddingbee, we had long been talking about getting married, so it wasn’t completely bonkers for me to begin following the blog. I’ve loved reading about all the adventures that previous bees have experienced, and I have already taken so much of their advice during my own planning process. It only seems fair for me to give back and share my own experience.
