I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Now *This* Is a Pomander

February 12th, 2011 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Lox

I get it. The flower balls are technically pomanders too. But I just can’t bring myself to call them that because I am also making these beauties. I am not the first bee to make these, and from the same tutorial, no less. I did, however, take a shortcut Miss Elephant did not. But I’m getting ahead of myself. First, my tutorial!

Honestly, Miss Elephant and I used the same tutorial from the same bride to get ourselves going. What are the odds, right? Here’s the original.

So here’s the deal. Not to cop out or anything…but I can’t really say it better than it’s already been said. So my tutorial is one step: Follow that link. Lame? Probably. But why reinvent the wheel?

Now to the shortcut. When I found all of this information, I wasn’t yet sure I could DIY anything at all. Obviously I have since proven I am able. But this was at the beginning of my planning, and I didn’t trust myself. Also, Mrs. Dudley’s wedding was over, and she was ready to offload her hard work. See where this is going? No? OK. I actually bought her pomanders.

When they came, my type-A self realized I could never fluff them enough to make myself happy. It was no one’s fault, and I wasn’t upset. Instead, I left the ribbon that was already in place on them, and I pulled the flowers out and made new ones from scratch. For the record, I cut pieces that were 3″ x 4″ and used five pieces per flower.

And what was the finished product? Well, this:

So now, whether you realize it or not, you have seen almost all of the components of our centerpieces. Sit tight and I will (finally) show them to you! I mean, if you promise not to point and laugh, that is.

Did you buy any parts of your decor from another bride?

It looks great! I don’t have anything from another bride yet, but I’d take vintage teacups off someone’s hands in a second.

Good job! Ha ha, I am a bit hesitant to put up my recaps on the bee when all is said and done. I think I’ve ‘begged/borrowed/stolen’ a lot of ideas from the bee. And Miss Biscuit, can I please borrow the vintage teacups when you are done? I’m just going to Goodwill and getting some ‘cut glass and cut glass lookalikes’ a la Mrs. Cupcake :)

I would soooooo rather just buy stuff. When I was knee deep in projects I really just wanted to go to Michael’s and buy the premade “BRIDES MAGAZINE” and “The Knot” stuff. I mean they even have Martha poms pre-made. Buying from other brides is even better ‘cuz it’s win win all around. You made the poms work! I wanna see it all together!

And P.S. I never posted one tutorial despite DIYing programs, cupcake towers, table numbers, place markers, etc. Ripped ‘em straight off the Bee. Maybe I should’ve made a post about how to blatantly follow and copy Bee tutorials :D

I have bought a ton of stuff from other brides on CL. I love the frames I bought and the antique easel.

I totally wish I had the forethought to buy things instead of starting nine million DIY projects… sigh. Looks good though… can’t wait to see the whole centerpiece.
