Floral Inspiration

February 14th, 2011 @ 9:47 am by Mrs. Crepe

One of the benefits of having the wedding at FIL Crepe’s church is that the ladies who take care of flower arranging there have offered to pitch in and help with the centerpieces. Given the number of projects I want to tackle, being able to hand something off feels amazing. They’ve asked me to email some photos of arrangements that I might like, and I knew exactly what to send them.

Side note: I would like to apologize ahead of time because I’m about to get REAL excited about flowers. I have always been bonkers about them—my first summer job in high school was at a local florist, where I cut stems and dethorned roses. Sometimes I would sit in the freezer with all the flowers, until a customer came in and I would pretend that I was looking for more baby’s breath. Sorry, digressing…

When it comes to flowers, nothing is as close to my heart as Saipua. One Valentine’s Day, when we were poor as all get out, Mr. Crepe gave me a little Mason-jar arrangement that he bought from them. He went over to Red Hook (in Brooklyn) and asked, the little charmer, “Do you have anything for less than $__? My girlfriend loves your flowers. She also reads your blog, we think you are awesome, la la la.” I gloss, but they were all truthfacts. The nice people at Saipua took pity on him and gave him a few plushy ranunculus, with a mix of pods and greens. It was the most beautiful arrangement I’ve ever received in my LIFE.

Since our wedding isn’t in New York, we won’t be able to have Saipua’s beautiful work at the wedding. But I’m one of the lucky ones who is having a wedding during peony season, so I’m hoping that we’ll be able to recreate a similar (and smaller) style with whatever florals are available at the time for our blue Mason jars. I found this great wholesale flower place (10 minutes away from the church!), and they have weekly deals. Right now I am dreaming about grasses and cattails, soft lambs’ ear, and scabiosa pods.

Saipua’s arrangements are SO drool-worthy. I love the look you’re going for with your flowers, and how lucky that you found a wholesale place near your venue!

Oh my goodness these are just lovely!

I adore peony’s but I’m going to have to settle with them growing in my garden than having them at our wedding.

@Lexsy: Yes, the plan is to DIY and have some of the ladies who make arrangements for the church help us put these together. I’m excited about what it will look like!

Import flowers is awesome!!! I work right around the corner from there. Maybe sometimes I go buy myself flowers for my desk…..

@Moose1209: You are so lucky!! I really love that place. If I worked around the corner, it would be fresh flowers for me every week! It’s probably good that I don’t.. haha

I love your inspiration pics! I wish I knew as much about these blooms as you… because I read lamb’s ear and I really visualized a lamb wearing a wreath of flowers before realizing that wasn’t an option…
