Online Dress Shopping - Part I

February 14th, 2011 @ 5:44 pm by Ms. Sloth

As you may recall, I had dress regret. Again.

My plan of attack was to order some dresses online to see if there was anything out there that I liked better. And if I couldn’t find anything better, I could just wear the David’s Bridal dress that I already have, which isn’t that bad.

So far, I’ve ordered two dresses, with plans to order a third.

Dress #1: The Limited

I mentioned in my last post that I was head over heels for the Melissa Sweet Fiesole (which is way out of my budget). I saw a dress on The Limited’s website that reminded me a bit of the Fiesole, so I ordered it.

Um. A world of NO.

I can’t decide if it would fit in better at a rodeo or on an episode of “Toddlers and Tiaras,” but at any rate, this dress is most definitely not for me. I couldn’t return it fast enough.

Dress #2: J. Crew

Although I’ve been thinking that I’ll stick with a tea-length dress, I really love the J. Crew Arabelle dress, so I ordered it to try on. And you know what? I think I really like it!

So it’s wrinkled from being shipped in a teeny box, and it’s way too long, and I’m not wearing the proper undergarments. But look!

Cute, right?

Still, I needed a second opinion, and the only person around was my beloved fiancé. I’m not superstitious and I know that Mr. S would forget whatever he saw in a few days (his brain isn’t wired for fashion). So I tried on my old David’s Bridal dress and the J. Crew dress for him and asked his opinion.

He preferred the J. Crew by far. And I did too.

So it seemed settled, right?

But then.

But then, last week, all of the previews of BHLDN came out. And look what they have:

Forgive me for the lack of eloquence, but OMGOMGOMG squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! It looks just like the Melissa Sweet Fiesole, for a fraction of the price!

BHLDN.com didn’t launch until today, and my size is on backorder so I can’t order it till the end of February. If it looks good on, then I’ve found my dress! If not, I think I can be very happy with the J. Crew Arabelle once it’s altered a bit.

Stay tuned, and cross your fingers for me, hive!

The J. Crew one looks amazing on you; I say go for it! And I really like the BHLDN one, I was just drooling over it this morning. This one from David’s Bridal has a really similar silhouette; maybe you could switch the brooch out for something cuter and make it work? http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Tea-Length-Gown-with-Box-Pleats-WG3038_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Silhouette-Short …it looked better one me than the Galina you bought, mainly because the skirt wasn’t as fluffy!

Ok. The JCrew one is GORGEY on you. The BHLDN one is amazing, but I worry about the boobies - as in, I don’t think mine would ever fit in there. Time for the bacon bra?

We have similar taste in dresses! I was in love with the fiesole too… but the price is just a little out of my range. The BHLDN one is amazing, and is my backup dress pick if the ivy and aster one i am trying on this weekend doesn’t work out. So I can’t wait to see pictures of you in the BHLDN one!
