Mrs. Bacon's Picture
Mrs. Bacon, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Digital Advertising Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, IT Client Services Engagement Date: June 17, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Ravenswood Billboard Factory About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl that can't seem to commit to staying in one place for too long and is constantly daydreaming about my next adventure. I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

Baconator: Buttoned Up

February 15th, 2011 @ 5:26 pm by Mrs. Bacon

The Baconator is more of an Al Borland than a James Bond, and if he could figure out how to wear a pair of torn up jeans to the ceremony, he might just do it. He even likes throwing around the idea of a tuxedo shirt, so we both knew that finding the right looks for the Bacon Boys was going to be a challenge.

Source and Source

When we first started talking about what the men should be wearing, the Baconator was adamant about wearing suits since he felt that if my outfit reflected me, his outfit should reflect his. That makes total sense. Well, except when we first started talking about what he’s going to wear, the dress I was wearing really needed a tuxedo. It was just too schmancy to stand beside a grey suit, but now, with the new dress, that fits better with our wedding vision of a fun and whimsical day. We were ready to go and look for what he really wants.

This weekend we made appointments at Mens Warehouse and a local Chicago shop to see what they offer. We went in hoping to find something with the look and feel of a three piece suit, preferably in grey, and here is what we found:

1. Grey with black accents.

Looks best with a tie and suspenders. Not recommended to have a cummerbund or vest.

2. Black with Double Lapels.

Looks best with a tie, can accommodate a vest, cummerbund or suspenders.

3. Black with a shawl collar.

Looks best with a bow tie, but can accommodate all looks.

(Oops, forgot to take a full length shot of this one!)

4. Black with a notched lapel.

Looks best with a tie, but can accommodate all looks.

We have a month or so before they want us to pick a style. As the Baconator said, “Maybe we should ask the Hive.” So, which one do you think is the best?

To help with your decision making, here’s a photo of him doing his thing…

For Mr. Bacon, I would pick #4. The first two look… smarmy. I can’t think of a better word. Picture a man you would describe in your mind as smarmy and I bet he would be wearing those suits. And the collar on #3 looks old fashioned for him.

Strong vote for #4 right here!

I agree with canadianbacon. #4 looks best for your man… he doesn’t seem like the serious-double-lapel-wearing kind of guy :)

See I love the double lapel on #2. But Mr. Lox says #4 because he’s never seen double lapels before. #2 would be his second choice.

#2 or #4. Not a fan of accents or the shawl collar. In related news, FI and I went to Syms today to start the suit quest for him (we weren’t happy with the limited rental options). We got a charcoal gray Michael Kors suit for $200! The jacket fits him like a dream, and we only need about $15 worth of alterations on the pants. So…that’s my plug for buying over renting, if he ever has cause to wear a suit after the wedding.
