Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

If you haven’t noticed, we had a really hard time picking out our wedding invitations. After a failed attempt at designing them myself in Adobe Illustrator, I started searching for graphic designers. Mr. B would have probably preferred if we just ordered something online, but I still wasn’t ready to let go of full control over the project.

We caught a break when I found out that there was a designer (gocubbies) in the hive who was willing to design invitations for an inexpensive price as a way to raise money for her own wedding. The samples of her work looked pretty good:

I didn’t think much of it, but I left my email address just in case. A few days later, Kyndal (gocubbies) wrote me and said she’d love to help design our invitations!

I showed Kyndal a few designs we had in mind and told her we were on the verge of just ordering something, but she said she could create whatever we wanted and (here’s the really awesome part!) design menus, programs, and tables to match –> Whaa?? #ULTIMATEWIN! I’ve always wanted coordinated stationery!

Kyndal and I have been corresponding for months now. She made good on her promise to deliver a design we loved, and she even customized the colors to match our wedding!

Ready for a peek at the final product?

Yay!

I can’t tell you how relieved we are to finally have something. Kyndal was really patient with me during the design process and I have to give her props! I didn’t know what I wanted and she was friendly, fast, and super fun to work with. Not to mention, she’s really affordable. We received numerous quotes for graphic designers and none were as low (or even came close) to her prices. Kyndal does not have a website, but she can be contacted at cursivebykyndal@Gmail.com.

Did you take a chance on a new vendor for your wedding? How did it work out?

I’m going to use a new Photographer for my wedding in July. She has done headshots as well as family portraits but never a wedding. The packages out there were just to pricey for oue barely there budget!

I am actually taking a chance on a new photographer, videographer, invitation designer and DJ. I didn’t realize it until now. So far, so good though. Our invitations are great as well as our engagement shoot. :) Love your options!

Oooh, lovely swirls!
We’re taking a chance on our florist. She owns an “uncommon goods” store but sells handpicked bouquets from her garden for $5 that are gorgeous. She along with another grower an hour away will be providing our flowers. Since they are all locally grown and in season, I have an *idea* as to what they’ll look like, but we won’t know for sure until we see what Mother Nature has in store!
