Miss Oatmeal's Picture
Miss Oatmeal, Fresno, CA Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Device Sales Representative Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Police Officer/Captain in the US Army Engagement Date: February 16, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Private Residence, Fresno About Me: I am a toast-loving, list-making, occasionally crazy California girl getting dangerously close to marrying her crime-fighting, patient, man's man fiancé. I’ve never left our hometown of Clovis, CA, I love Anthropologie so much it almost hurts, appreciate promptness, love that our 4lb. Chihuahua, Murphy, smells like Fritos, am irritated by windshield wipers that move too fast for the amount of rain, love me some cold weather, have an unhealthy obsession with boots, and wholeheartedly think that my family is everything. Mr. Oatmeal is, oddly enough, my brother's best friend. What’s In A Program?

February 15th, 2011 @ 3:08 pm by Miss Oatmeal

In an effort to incorporate both the Oatmeals’ interests into our wedding, we’ve decided to do a little something funky with our programs. Now, let me give you some background info on Mr. Oatmeal. You may remember from this post, that I mentioned he is quite fond of crossword puzzles. And when I say quite fond, I mean addicted. Here are a few photos taken from over the last few years, with Mr. Oatmeal completely uninterested in anything other than his puzzle.

{On our way to Yosemite a couple years ago, we had to stop for a wildfire. He capitalized on this opportunity by taking out his puzzle}

See what I mean folks? No, I wasn’t kidding. So when I came across this, I just knew we had to have it!

Adorable, no? I’m pretty excited about being able to incorporate this into our wedding and this seemed like the perfect way. We’re thinking about leaving these on the ceremony chairs as part of our wedding program, along with a personalized pencil, for our guests to pass time before the ceremony begins. I think this is going to fit our schedule a bit better, seeing as we will be taking all of our pictures before the ceremony, thus not having a cocktail hour.

How are you planning on incorporating your other half’s interests into your wedding?

just a word of advice that my FI passed along to me also (i had dreams of something interactive in our programs… now i cant remember what.) but anyway, what you think will pass the time BEFORE your ceremony might end up passing your guests time DURING the ceremony. and that would suck. maybe have them out for cocktail hour or something? because the crossword puzzles are seriously adorable.

This is such a cute idea! (: I’m thinking of doing something similar with I spy since I was a huge I Spy collector when I was younger. I got all the books ;)

cute idea, but I agree with Cassie…maybe use it on the back of the menus for people to do during the reception while waiting for dinner?

These are adorable. I like the idea of having them on the ceremony cards. I always arrive early to weddings and it would be fun to have something to look at while waiting.

I intend to have puzzles on our programs as well! I bought popsicle sticks to make those cute program fans with a pencil attached to them. I would like to have a word search, cross word and sudoku. Like Sunlavender, loads of people arrive early and would love to have something to do while they wait. I think it’s a great idea for the ceremony!

I love this idea!! Since our ceremony started late (really late) some guests were waiting almost an hour until things got started, so this would’ve been a fun thing to occupy them!

We had a crossword puzzle on the back of some of our programs. It was a big hit. Great idea.

I created a puzzle for FI and I back in December and plan on putting them at everyone’s place settings while they wait for dinner! Love it!

I love the idea, but I have to agree with those who mentioned that the guests might do this DURING the ceremony. My cousin had mad-libs fans (which were fantastic) but I definitely got distracted at some points and wrote some stuff in on the fan. Not saying I ignored the ceremony, but with a crossword, people might be thinking harder about it and not as much about what is happening.

I do like the idea, they look awesome. I would kind of worry that people would get a bit engrossed while you guys are saying your ‘i-do’s’ but let’s face it - you’re always going to have SOMEONE staring off into space or zoning out during wedding vows. ;)

We made a crossword puzzle for our kiddo activity books. I wanted to have it for the adults (I think it was perhaps a bit too sophisticated for the young’ens), but couldn’t find a way to make it work. I can’t wait to see yours!
