New Series: After “I Do”

February 15th, 2011 @ 12:30 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Hi hive!

Last year we surveyed Weddingbee readers and asked you what you’d like to see more of on Weddingbee. One of the most popular responses was that you wanted to see more follow-up from the married bees. You asked for more posts on not just weddings, but on marriage and beyond. So, the married bees all got together and brainstormed a huge variety of prompts and topics, including:

  • How did your relationship change in the first year of your marriage?
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how much stress does money put on your relationship?
  • Are you and your SO on the same page when it comes to having children (or not)?
  • How has your marriage affected your other relationships (with family, friends, coworkers, etc.)?
  • What are some things you do to keep your relationship healthy?
  • What was your relationship with your in laws like before you got married? What is it like now?
  • Wedding regrets: After your wedding, what were some of your immediate regrets in regards to the wedding day?
  • What are your opinions on divorce? Have your opinions changed now that you are married?

Beginning tomorrow and over the next few weeks, the married bees will be getting together to answer these questions and more in our new series called After “I Do” and we encourage our married hive members to join in on the discussion in the comments!

We hope that a more well-rounded discussion of not just weddings, but marriage and married life as well, is something you’ll enjoy reading.

Also, we encourage you to participate! We have a huge line up of prompts thus far, but would love to see more, so we’re opening up the topics to the hive. We want to know what topics YOU would like to see married bees and hive members discuss.

If you have a burning relationship/marriage question for bees and hive members on the other side of marriage, please let us know here in the comments of this post!

I love this, I’m interested to see how my favorite bees have been doing after they stop blogging and how their marriages are going!

Love this! How about having them share if they are still blogging and linking to their after wedding blogs?

I really love these questions and the idea behind it as well. As much as we all love wedding planning, a successful marriage takes of hard work, and getting a perspective from married bees could help us identify with each other :)

I’m looking forward to this! It’s a great idea. Will hive members get to have their responses to these questions posted too?

Thank you! We always hear about how the wedding isn’t the end, but the beginning, but so much of our culture doesn’t back that up with what we talk about and think about:

“Why else do all the stories end when the [King]’s daughter gets married? Hasn’t that ever struck you as a bit sinister? I mean, have you ever read a folk tale where the Princess’s mother gets to do anything but die young? I’ve never been able to figure out if that’s supposed to be a warning, or an instruction. “ — LM Bujold, A Civil Campaign

This series will be great!! Another thing I would be interested to hear about is how marriage changed each of your relationships to your friends… common friends or each of your own sets of friends. This probably varies a lot depending on age/stage of life when you got married, but as the only one of my friends who is married I feel like I notice a change!

I’d be particularly interested in post regarding what it was like to move in together for the first time.

Also, how do folks divide up household chores, did it change, we’re duties discussed or did folks fall into gender ruts.

Money management, budget philosophy, Joint or individual accounts, savings priorities etc. eneral not specific numbers.

It might be a good idea to sticky this annoucement in the Newlyweds board in case some married hive members are currently reading the blog.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought; could it be? But no it wasn’t. I thought this idea: http://ideas.weddingbee.com/topic/wedded-bee-bloggers perhaps was already in the works behind the scenes!
Well this is a start and I look forward to reading how all the Bees are coping after that ‘epic’ day!

Love it! I would definitely be interested in hearing from the Bees who didn’t live with their FI before marriage on what it was like to deal with a new marriage and setting up a house together :).
