Apologies if I venture into TMI territory here, but I promised myself that I’d blog frankly here on Weddingbee, so here we go.
You know that thing, that thing that happens to most adult females on a regular basis, that thing that you really don’t want to deal with on the day when you’re wearing a very expensive white dress?

Yeah, that’s going to happen to me.
When I walk down that aisle in May, I am going to have my period. There’s no way around it. My periods come pretty much like clockwork, and I am 100% sure that it will come either the day before or the day of the wedding.
Ugh.
I used to take hormonal birth control but I didn’t like the things it did to my body (major weight gain, horrible headaches), so I stopped. I’d really prefer not to go back on it again just to delay my period. I’ve done some research to see if there is any natural way to delay a period, but I haven’t been able to find anything from a reputable source.
If I don’t delay my period, I’ve got to find a way to minimize its symptoms.
I get hardcore PMS, and I don’t want to spend the already stressful days leading up to the wedding being extra pissy and bloated. On the first and second days of my periods, I get terrible cramps, cramps that make me want to curl up in the fetal position and cry for a few hours (and like I said above, my wedding will be on the first or second day of my cycle). And my flow is also at its heaviest on the first or second day, which means that I won’t be able to relax. I will be so paranoid and worried about my white dress that I’ll probably want to run to the bathroom every ten minutes.
So how do I combat these symptoms? Well, I’m not sure if I can fight the PMS. I can try to drink a lot of water and avoid sodium to keep the bloating to a minimum, but I don’t know how not to be an emotional mess. The cramps? I don’t know. I love Aleve for headaches and body pains, but it has never worked on my cramps. Neither has any other over-the-counter pain medication, and I don’t want to take anything stronger, for fear of ending up like Sam’s sister on Sixteen Candles after she took four muscle relaxers.
The fun starts at about 30 seconds in.
The one thing that seems to work are these Thermacare Menstrual heat pads.

As long as my dress isn’t skin-tight (which it won’t be), I don’t think it’ll show. I can hide it under my a-line skirt and feel soothing warmth on my tummy all day long.
And the white dress issue? Well, I’ve read amazing things about the Diva Cup, so I ordered it and will give it a try next month.

You only have to change it every 12 hours, so I could presumably get through the entire ceremony and reception without having to worry about leakage or changing a tampon while wearing a puffy white dress.
If I take all of these precautions, maybe I’ll have a fairly stress-free, symptom-free period. I hope. I hope. I hope.
Have you had to deal with having your period on your wedding day? Did you delay it or try to combat the symptoms? And if anyone has any advice or reviews on the Diva Cup, I’m all ears!
