Lego Love

February 16th, 2011 @ 9:46 am by Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

We may combine furniture, household goods, and even finances, but our Lego collections will never be combined. At least that’s what Mr. P has jokingly maintained for the last few years. He claims his Legos are superior to mine and co-mingling would be disastrous (for his).

Both of us grew up with a fascination with the tiny bricks. When I moved away from home, my Legos were packed up for the trip. Every once in a while, we’ll drag the storage totes out and start construction projects. My foreman does a poor job of planning, since my projects inevitably run out of bricks, and I eye his pile. Man, it would be nice if I could just borrow a few.

See what I could accomplish if I had more bricks?

You can tell whose Legos are whose; our sorting styles are a microcosm of our personalities. Mine are grouped by color and size into large chunks. And his, well…they’re dismantled with lightning speed and unceremoniously dumped back.

This whole Lego thing got me thinking…How can we incorporate this quirky shared interest into the wedding? Cake! It’s the most obvious and tastiest, of course. The internet is awesome. Ask (search) and you shall receive.

And then there’s the Lego wedding cakes…

But those are too obvious. Maybe I’ll sneak a Lego bride and groom onto our cake?

I’m pretty sure I have these or similar in my superior collection. (via Etsy)

Lots more sweet ideas here.

How did you incorporate a shared interest into your wedding?

LOVE the bride and groom lego people!!!

We both write fantasy novels, so we’re using our characters in the wedding (aka we’re dressing up AS our alter-egos, so to speak), the invites are fantasy, our first novel that needs a complete rewrite to be even eligible for an agent/publishing is going to be our guestbook, and our color scheme is the “House colors” of the patriarch of our fictional family.

That white Lego cake is terrific, miss pc :)
Mr. O and I are infusing our love for music, books and film with some decor pieces on our reception table.
Looking forward to seeing how you Lego your wedding!

We used Lego “design by me” software http://designbyme.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx?icmp=COCreateShareSpotlightUSDBMto create our own lego bride & groom cake topper that looked something like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/56558894/custom-made-bride-and-groom-wedding-cake?ref=sr_list_16&ga_search_query=lego%2Bcake%2Btopper&ga_search_type=handmade
My FI really enjoyed designing it, and the cost was under $50, including shipping :)

My SIL & BIL did Lego people on top of their wedding cake. They’re HUGE into Star Wars as well, so they had Princess Lea and Luke Skywalker up there. It was A HUGE hit and looks adorable.

Friends of ours integrated Lego creations into their centerpieces. If i remember correctly, the centerpieces had a plant, some candles, and a big Lego dragon or moose or other creature.
You could also use Legos as your vessels for whatever other centerpieces you’re planning- stick flowers in there, etc.

I LOVE the idea of a lego cake. It’s an adorable way to include your mutual interests!! My favorite idea here is sneaking some legos onto your cake– maybe making some white chocolate legos with candymolds to put on the cupcakes? I also love the giant lego molds, those are so cute.

Oh my gosh, I looked forward to Christmas-time so much because that was when I got the super-cool large lego sets. Pirate ships! Helicopters! I love the Lego bride and groom topper!

That is so funny! I can’t wait to see how you decide to use the legos. Since DH and I met and fell in love at college, we incorporated our alma mater into a lot of the wedding. The champagne flutes we used during the wedding were from the school’s senior fairwell toast!

Love the inspiration, it’s so cute! I think every wedding should reflect the couple’s shared interest: in our case, we are going for a gourmet sit down dinner (we love sampling nice restaurants), retro music and small details that reflect our inner geekiness (like references to old sci-fi books and steampunk decor)

Our BFFs had a Lego cake topper when they got married. They even had an arch with a stained (plastic) glass window and the bride had a little veil. It was adorable and they can display it with out worrying about it getting broken. When the dog or cat knocks it off a shelf, they just snap it back together.

Lego people on the cake looks adorable.
