I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

How to Make An Awesome Wedding Website : wedding hawaii wedding website Wedding wedding

{website photo source}

Today, hive, I’m going to share my journey on how to make your own, one-of-a-kind wedding website…the easy peasy way. :)

I bypassed the other wedding website options—Wedding Channel, Wedding Wire, The Knot, etc.—since I knew of another site that could make our website exactly how we wanted it:

Blogger

I see some of you cringing, and there’s nothing to be nervous about!

I was just like you and thought you had to be an html guru to build a pretty website, but after some trial and error, I saw that Blogger made website building super, duper, simple.

Are you ready???

* for the blogger bees out there, skip steps 1-5 and proceed directly to THE GOOD STUFF :) *

BUILD IT:

Step 1: Create Your Wedding Website…Blog…You Know What I Mean:

Head over to Blogger, login using your Google ID and click on the link “Create A Blog” at the right side of the page

Step 2: Name Your Awesome Wedding Blog!

You’re in! Now, what do you wanna name this baby?

How to Make An Awesome Wedding Website : wedding hawaii wedding website Namewe name+we

Step 3: Style It Out

This is where, if you’re an HTML wizard, you can wave your html wand and custom a fancy template. I didn’t do that. Instead, I picked the “Ethereal” template…it’s super cute, right?

Step 4: Press the Magic Button

Woo hoo! Your awesome wedding website is up! Now let’s head over and start making stuff!

Step 5: Let’s Make Some Pages

We made a Page {tab} for every subject we thought was important to cover for our beach wedding. By clicking the “New Page” button, you can add the pretty pictures and important stuff you want to tell your favorite people about.

And here’s a glimpse of the type of good stuff we wanted to share….

THE GOOD STUFF:

The Homepage: An Intro Letter

This is the main blog homepage. You don’t need to create this one, only the ones that fall behind it.

We wanted to write a personal note to our fam and friends, welcoming them to the site and telling them how thrilled we are to share our special day with them.

Page 2: Fly + Drive + Sleep - travel info at your fingertips!

Airlines, airport shuttles, accommodations and special wedding guest hotel rate info—this is the closest thing to a travel agent we could get. A few clicks and the entire trip is booked from this page.

Page 3: Maps, maps, everywhere

We included a Google map of the island and a star where our resort’s location is located.

We also included a resort map, since the place is so freakin’ huge {see resort map below}

This is the Ostrich Guidebook to Oahu—a laundry list of our favorite places to check out, do and grub!

Page 6: Let Me Help You Pack

We included this as a helpful reminder of some stuff we always bring for our tropical getaways. This will save some time for our guests who’ve never been to Hawaii before and don’t know the tropical weather and crazy microclimates of the island. Oh, and so they don’t have to spend $15 on sunblock when they get to the hotel. ;)

Page 7: Will You Join Us?

We set up the option to R.S.V.P via email for our tech savvy friends…and for our guests who wanted to keep our R.S.V.P card, because they loved it {no lie}

Page 8: Hey DJ, Could You Play That Song?

Our favorite page!!! Since Mr. Ostrich and I are iPod DJ-ing our wedding, we wanted to take special requests from our peoples to get them booty shakin’ on the dance floor and yelling, “OMIGOD THIS IS MY JAM!”

MISC Pages:

We have a few more pages on the site that I didn’t want to bore you with…a page of our Save the Date and invitation, a page of our registry info, our welcome cocktail hour info, a day of wedding schedule and a page that’s kind of like a guestbook.

PHEW!!! Holy guacamole, I think that’s everything. If you’ve made it this far…*HIGH-FIVE*…you’re awesome.

Now let’s talk about your wedding website! Are you making your own or using a pre-designed site? What “good stuff” are you including?

Great Job Miss O! I did the easy way and went with mywedding.com because HTML scares me. Now that I think about it, I could have given that duty to Mr. E since he goes to school for that stuff.

I wanted simple and easy. And the idea of coding/designing our website was daunting. Too many options! I’m having trouble with invite designs and couldn’t imagine trying to design a website 12 months ago.

What an awesome tutorial! We used a pre-designed website, but I secretly wish we would have done something completely personalized.

Hey Lisa! Not to worry. When you are on the “create a post” or “create a page,” there are little icons/buttons that help you add pictures and links to your website.

The icon that looks like a landscape is the “add picture” button. When you click it, you can add an image by uploading it from your computer or by inserting an image URL link.

The icon that looks like 2 chain links is the “add link” button. Using your BBB example, I’d highlight the “bed bath and beyond,” click the “add link” button and insert http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com in the add link area….and viola! Your link is created.

Finally, like Microsoft word, there are formatting buttons that can adjust your text position, change your font, adjust your font size and add a video. All you have to do is click these buttons. :)

And as always, please pm me if you want any more tips!

Good luck!
Miss O

Great tutorial, Ostrich! The “bring it” section is a brilliant idea. :) We used Wix to make our website, but in retrospect I have no idea why I didn’t just use Blogger since my blog is already hosted there. Whoops!

great idea! did you use Java for your RSVP/Dj requests pages?
Or did you just have your guests RSVP via comments on blogger?

@Miss Wallaroo: We did both! Comments section for the dj requests and we actually set up an RSVP email account on googlesites, so these responses didn’t get mixed up with our personal emails. Hope this helps!
