Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

The Final 30

February 18th, 2011 @ 5:11 pm by Mrs. Hippo

With just 30 days left until the Hippo wedding, I think I’ve been asked approximately 231 times how everything is going. And, frankly, I would love to say that everything is awesome and that I’m basking in the glow of getting married and truly enjoying all the last moments of being engaged. Problem is…I don’t feel like that. Don’t get me wrong, everything on the wedding planning side is going extremely well. I have a short list of things left on my DIY list. I’m going to Dallas next weekend for a dress fitting, my bachelorette party, and to meet one last time with key vendors. Everything wedding related is peachy keen. It’s everything else that is causing me major stress.

Without having to go into a ton of details (particularly since there are a couple of co-workers that read Weddingbee… hi Mia!), I’ve had a lot of work drama lately.

Not only is it just an extremely busy time of year, but I am working extra hard to get everything in a place so that I can take a two week hiatus for the wedding and honeymoon without having to think about the office at all, but even more than that, my office is… oh, how do I say it… in a bit of a transition… which has caused an extra level of stress and complication that, frankly, I’m not a big fan of. Why can’t everyone just leave me the f’ alone so I can (a) do my job and (b) enjoy the fact that I’m about to get married? Is that so hard??!?

Anyhoo, I know I’ve been a little MIA lately, and I apologize for popping back in just to whine, but that’s where I am. I’m mentally trying to get past all the work drama and focus on this super exciting time in my life, but it’s hard for me. Really hard.

Anyone else feel me on this? How have you mentally gotten past other life drama to focus on your wedding joy?

Oh man, I feel you. There’s more to life than wedding planning, and sometimes that stuff - good or bad - takes center stage.

So true, so true. Whenever school gets rough, it seems like something catastrophic occurs with something else I’m doing. Once the wedding pressure really starts pressing on me bad things may happen. Oh, and I’ll probably get sick. A+.

I hope things calm down a bit!

Funny enough, I WAS thinking about you the other day and wondering how the wedding planning was coming and that I hadn’t seen you on the bee in a while. Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine in the end. It’s the last stretch! I can’t believe it. It seems only yesterday I was saying ‘hello’ to you :)

Good luck with the big day!!
If you have time to look at this, I would love to know what your did or plan to do for your bachelorette party in Dallas. We’re having mine there in April and trying to figure out where to stay and what to do/where to eat/where to go out has been a challenge. Would love to hear any suggestions.

@sarahden: I actually have NO idea what is happening for my bachelorette party. My bridesmaids have done all the work, and I have no clue. I know that we are all staying at a friends house, but other than that, I am completely clueless. I’ll let you know what ends up happening!

OMG, do we have drama taking away out attention. Between the FHs work drama, all the paperwork from his ex’s passing, and the everyday drama of teenagers, yes we have a ton of drama around us right now. I keep my fingers crossed everyday that it will just magically all come together.

Oh, girl, I know all about work drama! Mr. Rainbow’s job actually tried to force him to come into work on our honeymoon! How’s that for a caring employer?!

Aw, Miss Hippo I’m so sorry to read that. Could you possibly come up with any advice for us MOB’s that would help prevent that from happening to our daughters when they hit the same time frame? (Yeah, you need another thing to do right now–so sorry!) The last thing I want is to see my daughter go through the kind of stress you are experiencing and hope that things get happier for you soon.

Mom-hugs to you!

I’m sorry to hear that, as work related issues can really affect ones state of mind, and turn a period which should be happy in a stressful one! As I’m in a similar situation, I am trying to put my wedding and my well being first, and not worry too much about work by taking a step back and not getting myself too involved by projects and problems and issues and drama and such. It’s not the best solution, as I feel I’m not being proactive enough, but it’s the only way I know of enjoying the wedding planning and feeling good about it! Good luck with it!
