Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer Engagement Date: December 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Glendale Lyceum About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. About Mrs. Prairie Dog

A few years ago, wearing colored wedding shoes was the “different” thing to do. These days, I can barely remember the last time I saw someone with traditionally “bridal” shoes. In other words, now I feel like the “different” one, even though my selection of shoes is standard-issue bridal, all the way. And frankly, it feels like I’ve made the choice to be boring.

Festive, non-white shoes make total sense for a wedding because you can wear them again- pretty and practical. But my desire for classic wedding-day pumps stems from the very opposite reason: when else would I get to wear white satin slingbacks with an almond-toe and dainty heels?

(Post-wedding goal: Learn how to take a picture. Nothing says “aesthetics” like an electrical outlet. You’re welcome, hive!)

So these are my wedding day heels. They’re simple and comfortable, with a slingback that has a little give when I move. The heel gives me a little lift, but nothing sky-high or topple-worthy.

I know they’re not the latest trend or gasp-gorgeousness like many wedding shoes. But they’re what I’ve always imagined for myself, and they actually make me feel graceful and demure. That, my friends, is a feat in itself. Or, ahem, feet. Thank you. I’ll be here all week.

I’m happy with them, but there’s still a part of me that has a wandering eye. You know, that instinct to channel stress into purchases. (Is that just me? Like- ugh, invitations are stressing me out..oh look!…shoes that make me want to do a small dance. Click, bought, happy.) But I think I’ll stick with my simple slingbacks for day-of festivities and maybe bust out a favorite pair for the rehearsal dinner.

Okay, give it to me straight. Am I a square for keeping in step with sartorial status-quo?

My shoes are white too and I absolutely love them! I wanted to wear converse because those are probably the most comfortable shoes I own but by dad vetoed them. I am wearing my white shoes for him mostly, but they make me feel like a bride too :)

I’m wearing ivory shoes! I tried the colored route and it just didn’t look right with my dress.

I wore white for half of the wedding too! Flats though, not nearly as bada-bing! as yours!

I am wearing white shoes! I have white satin calvin klein pumps that are extremely comfortable. I am dressing them up with these dark green rhinestone shoe clips because it goes with my color scheme.

I was going to wear white shoes until I found my purple ones. I bought the color on the off chance I’d be able to wear them again (truth be told, they will probably sit in my closet for the rest of my life. At least I tried.).

I love your shoes though, and your photo taking skills! Clearly, you were making an artistic statement. The commonality and aesthetic of the outlet juxtaposes the awesomeness of your shoes!

I like your shoes! They are simple and classy. I had ivory heels and loved their crisp pop with my green dress.

Dude, they’re Chanel which equals awesome! I am such a label whore. Besides that, they are so gorgeous! Rock those classic shoes…demurely, obviously.

So elegant, lady. And NO, you’re not a square! You’re carrying out what you have always envisioned for yourself on your big day, and I think that’s beautiful. I say rock the classic-ness :)

I’m wearing white with tulle on them for the same reason as you…When else will I ever get to do that? I love white shoes.

I think the colored shoes are pretty, and even had some fleeting thoughts about the BM blue Randalls.

All of our weddings will eventually look dated, so I tried not to let concerns over the “trendiness” of something deter me if I loved it. (My gown will date in a hurry, for sure.) But with the shoes…I’m kind of feeling like that “the pop of color” (shoes, sashes, etc) has shown its time stamp already. Maybe I’ve just seen too many episodes of What Not to Wear where mismatched shoes are enforced like the law?

I haven’t made up my mind yet, but I think your shoes are lovely and elegant! And it’s nice to see some shoes that are neither flats nor ankle-breakers (as I refer to heels higher than 3″).

hahaha its absolutely not you! I live in Amsterdam now which means my poor parents have stack of boxes piling up at the door because of all the wedding “stress”.

Youre not alone! I wore ivory shoes that matched my gown. I loved them! I have actually worn them since (on my birthday) and I love that there are very few occasions I can bring them out for!

I went the totally bridal route too and picked a pair of ivory heels with lace and floral fabric details. I will probably never be able to wear them again, but since that goes for the dress as well, I think they’re a very good match! :)

They are great shoes! I’m glad that you’re going the white route, sometimes I wonder if I should, too… but that might be that wandering eye you mention…

omg LOVE!! Seriously, the colored shoe is so SO far past the point of being “unique” or different in the least. It’s become expected. How fabulously chic to be UNexpected in a classic look like those! Color me converted! Elegant, white satin pumps, here I come.

I think at the moment there is no standard or trend regarding wedding shoes, since white is still a popular option but colored is pretty much standard. It’s always better to go with what you like best than what you think is trendy, not to mention the fact that those shoes are timeless and adorable!
