Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

Seriously, you start to have such a good time that everything runs together! When I saw this photo I couldn’t place it in the night at all—and I loved it!

After our first dance I can’t recall what happened but there was commotion about our parents’ seating arrangements that I had to fix and I remember wanting to hurry because I wasn’t listening to my dad’s welcome speech. After a little switcheroo, I joined Mr. Barrettes at the front of my room and we had some laughs courtesy of Dad Barrettes. I love his purple tie and cummerbund.

While everyone was seated, I asked my mom to take the opportunity say hello and let our guests know that the wine charms affixed to their wine bags were for use during the evening. The charms I spent so much time making suddenly looked so small in comparison to the evening.

If I had to make them again I would make them much bigger, and not so dainty. Check out Mrs. Jellyfish’s. It’s one thing to look at them up close and see the detail—it’s another to actually be functional. I may have even used wine cozies (which lay on the entire base of the glass) instead of tags.

Mr. Barrettes and I made some quick rounds while everyone was being seated. He headed left towards family and I headed right, towards friends. Yes we should have gone together, but things just happen and your head isn’t always on straight with all that sensory-overload. I ended up taking a seat at the table that held my girlfriends from high school, and honestly I could have stayed there all night! And I almost did—oops!

Love this photo. Brothers.

It’s so lovely that weddings bring your favorite people together, but such a shame that you cannot devote enough attention to each and every guest. It’s almost like a cruel joke being able to see friends you haven’t seen for years, but only being able to spend less than 10 minutes with them personally!

How did you handle your rounds? Mrs. Octopus made a great suggestion about starting with family and saving friends you see often until last.

Ugh, we didn’t get around to all the tables as planned and it still haunts me to this day…Your photos are lovely!

Love that first photo of you and the new mister!!

Ooo, that is a good suggestion! About half of our guests are OOT-ers so this is a big concern.

I’d also love to hear how the married Bees made their rounds. It’s a nagging fear of mine that we’ll unintentionally miss someone. Mama Barrettes looks awesome, by the way!

Nice pics as usual. I don’t know what to do. I have guests coming all the way from Africa. I guess we’ll tackle it when it arrives.

Such beautiful pics, barrettes!

It took us forever to get around to everyone! I think we said hello to everyone, but it would have been nice to chat longer.

I love that the wine charms got some love at the reception! Thank you, and mrs. Jellyfish for the wise words about doing the rounds….i’m going to tuck this bit of advice away for our wedding day. :)

I agree totally and completely. I did start with family and relatives and save my friends until last, and I’m very glad I got some good conversations with my grandma, but man do I wish I’d had more time with my old friends.

I love reading your recaps, your wedding was gorgeous!

I am nervous about making it around the every table to see people, but I know we are going to make our rounds during dinner as we are going to eat during cocktail hour so we are hoping that helps!

I love the wine charms. I was trying to figure out a way for guests to keep track of their drink at our wedding so I might have to do this! Thanks for inspiration! :-P

We made a conscious effort to go to each table. We were served food first, and ate quickly and then took our wine glasses and started at the table next to us and just went around, saying hello and thank you, answering questions and “cheers-ing” the entire table, then moved on until we did them all. Since we had eaten first and fast, everyone was still sitting and eating when we went around. I recommend this highly because I know we personally thanked every guest and while it wasn’t a long time, it was some time. Then for the rest of the night we just floated around talking and didn’t have to worry about each person.

We did ours at cocktail hour!

Your venue is just so mindblowingly gorgeous. I love that first pic of Mr. B giving you a kiss–so sweet!
