$30 to anyone who knows what song the title came from without Googling it. OK, actually, a few people may get it and I don’t want to give multiple people $30. So, I retract the previous statement. Major kudos to anyone who knows what song the title came from without Googling it!
Music is very important to both Mr. Biscuit and me. I like to think we have eclectic music tastes, but really, quite a few members of the hive have our same love of indie and ’80s music. We can still pretend we’re individuals with our music tastes though.

Mr. Biscuit has a love for David Bowie. It’s almost creepy. The latest escalation is his Halloween costume for this year. Yes, he has already decided on his Halloween costume 8 months in advance. He wants to re-purpose last year’s Hall and Oates costume (well, the wig):

Yup. If you’ve never seen Labyrinth, do yourself a favor and view it immediately. It’s on Instant Watch on Netflix.
So, I knew from the beginning our wedding soundtrack would have to be a cool mishmash of indie music and classics like Bowie. This instantly meant a live band was out; however, if you have ever heard of a live band that can play Bowie, Springsteen, AND Modest Mouse, by all means, send them my way.
Mr. Biscuit and I knew we were going to need to go the DJ route. The problem with that? When I think of DJs, I conjure up images like this:
and this:

Yes, I have seen something happen similar to this at a wedding.
Then, I had this great idea. Mr. B and I wanted to make the play list ourselves. Why spend upwards of $1000 for a DJ, when we could just have an iPod wedding! Complete with DJ-like transitions. Mr. Biscuit vetoed this, though, because apparently this would take hours upon hours of work, and our wedding is so large, so it’s kinda important to have an emcee. Oh.
So I was back to square one, since Mr. Biscuit could be bothered with neither the hours upon hours of playlist work nor the hours upon hours of research to find an appropriate DJ. That’s a different story for a different blog post though. Eventually, I found a company; however, finding them took a ton of searching and it was kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack. They are young DJs who specialize in ’80s music and mash ups and they were reasonably priced.
The clouds opened up. Choirs of angels sang. The arduous days leading up to this internet find were quickly forgotten, much like how mothers forget how much labor pained them once they hold their newborn for the first time.
I’m still waiting to sign the contract for the DJs, but we’re 99% sure it’s going to work out. It’s a giant load off of my shoulders, and even though I am a little apprehensive about not having all the control I could possibly have over our music, but I’m learning to let it go. I spent a long time finding DJs that are highly recommended and are knowledgeable of the genres we like. Deep breaths. It will be OK.
Did anyone else have the same issues finding a DJ or also need to have complete control of the playlist?
