Last time I left off talking about going dress shopping, we had just finished our first appointment in NYC and taken a well-deserved food break.
After the break, we went to David’s Bridal on 6th Avenue. We didn’t have an appointment, but there wasn’t too long of a wait. At this point, I was feeling a little run down since the first appointment was so early and took so long. I hadn’t done much browsing in the catalog, so I wasn’t sure if I’d find anything I would like.
The first dress I tried was a discontinued style and was the last one of its kind remaining in the store.

You can see the uncertainty in my posture, right?
It was exactly my size, but the color was a very, very bright white. Even though I had my heart set on ivory, it was so far under budget that I felt like I had to consider it. Somehow, I thought it was possible for me to dye it.
Yes, you heard me right. I thought I was going to dye that enormous monstrosity of a dress. Looking at it now, I can’t figure out how I thought that was going to happen. The dress was massive. I can only blame it on the fact that I was completely, utterly exhausted.

The color wasn’t the only thing wrong—it was also too formal for the event Mr. Crepe and I are planning. The dress itself wasn’t even my style. I was getting caught up with other people’s excitement and no longer thinking for myself. BM took a bunch of photos and, after I came home, I was so glad I didn’t buy it. I liked it in the store, but the photos showed how much the dress clashed with my skin tone. I got so caught up with the price and what I thought I’d love about it later that I almost made a huge mistake.
While we were trying to figure out if I should buy this super-sale dress, I moved on to another one.

Playing with the skirt = a good sign!
I loved this one the second I put it on, even though it was too big. The detailing on it was subtle, and the color was perfect for the vintage-modern wedding that Mr. Crepe and I are planning. It actually reminded me of the Watters Austin that I had tried on in the earlier appointment. It was priced a bit higher than my budget, but close enough that I felt comfortable with it.
MOH’s vote was for the first one because she loves drama in a dress, so the consultant’s and her excitement about that one made me uncertain about whether or not this ivory dress was for me. They were just so excited! I’m really not sure why the consultant didn’t think to pin the dress. Personally, I suspect she was trying to sell the discontinued dress immediately and hoped that I would take it home that day. I’m so glad that we took a few photos of the ivory dress because it was the photos that convinced me of this fact: I loved that second DB dress and not the first. (PSA: Take photos! They help SO much.)
The next day, my mom and I went to a different David’s Bridal location, hoping to try on a dress that fit, and we found one! It was a bit long, even with the four-inch shoes I planned to wear with it. As it turns out, my obsessive Say Yes to the Dress watching was not wasted, and I requested a fuller slip. The dress magically became the proper length! And the slip even created that tiny bit of drama my MOH wanted in a wedding dress for me. Honestly, I loved it.

OK, in real life, I am seriously lacking in chest dept. There is never before seen cleavage here. The dress is magic, I tell you.
