Matchmaker, Matchmaker

February 22nd, 2011 @ 9:38 am by Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

Do you remember taking those teen-magazine quizzes? Most of us probably did at least once or twice, right? Please tell me I’m not the only dork who thought it was fun! And who didn’t look forward to Psych 101? It was one of the more interesting freshman-level offerings.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker : wedding relationships wilmington Sevente

(I remember buying this one.)

Now we’re a little old to buy teen magazines…so I’ve got a different sort of quiz for you to try—no teenybopper magazine required. It’s a personality assessment that looks at your psychological preferences for decision making. Out of 16 possible results (or “types”), it reveals commonalities within the type for “language use, intellectual orientation, educational and vocational interests, social orientation, self image, personal values, social roles, and characteristic hand gestures.” But it’s more fun to find out how two personalities match up. If you’ve ever wondered why some people irritate the hell out of each other or are two peas in a pod, give it a try.

Oh, there’s plenty!

Find me a find, catch me a catch (our results):

Mr. P is an ENTP (extrovert, intuitive, thinking, perceiver), which is just fancy talk for he likes being around people, favors insights and theoretical thinking, decides in a consistent way, and likes to keep his options open in case something better comes along. ENTPs (or Inventors) make up 2–5% of the population, so it’s one of the less common types.

Anyone who knows him would agree with this description:

Quick, ingenious, stimulating, alert, and outspoken. Resourceful in solving new and challenging problems. Adept at generating conceptual possibilities and then analyzing them strategically. Good at reading other people. Bored by routine, will seldom do the same thing the same way, apt to turn to one new interest after another.

I’m an ENFJ (extrovert, intuitive, feeling, judger), which is similar to Mr. P, except I prefer to take things on a case-by-case basis and like to plan things in advance, as soon as possible, please. ENFJs (or Teachers) also make up 2–5% of the population.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker : wedding relationships wilmington Enfj enfj

Warm, empathetic, responsive, and responsible. Highly attuned to the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. Find potential in everyone, want to help others fulfill their potential. May act as catalysts for individual and group growth. Loyal, responsive to praise and criticism. Sociable, facilitate others in a group, and provide inspiring leadership.

I have already seen our personality differences come up in wedding planning, or planning in general. He is far more laid back than I am. I’m the one planning weeks, months, sometimes years in advance. (Days in advance is for amateurs.) This would be the J/P battling it out. Case in point: Yes, we need to decide on an officiant now or we’ll have to ordain the neighborhood bartender.

What about compatibility between our types?

An ENTP is most compatible with: INTP, ENTP, INFJ, ENFJ.

An ENFJ is most compatible with: ENFJ, INFJ, ENTP, INTP.

(And just for laughs, this write-up is a hoot. Our personality titles are “cult leader” [me] and “mad scientist” [him].)

So, what’s your type? And if you kindly asked your sweetie to take the test, what was the result?

I’m an ENTJ. Or “Evil Overlord” in that write up… LOL
He’s an INTP. According to that, we shouldn’t be a match, but we tend to balance each other out in many respects.

I’m an ENTP, too!
Also, OMG, look at Katherine Heigl back in her Bride of Chucky days! I loved that movie.

I’m an ENFP, or “The Sociologist.” Bo-ring, but so accurate! My fiance and I were just discussing yesterday how I have the constant desire to jump from job to job, and how I love brainstorming and researching every idea under the sun (learning a new language, moving to another country, embarking on a new career path entirely, etc) without ever making concrete plans or following through. It sounds like a really negative conversation, but it wasn’t - just funny, especially now that I’m reading my results.

I live in “the world of possibilities.” Also, I hate mundane tasks - probably why I’m constantly searching for new jobs. If only I could be an “inspirer” as a profession. Sigh.

I’m an INFJ. By my best guess, Mr. Tartlet would be an ISTJ…he’s logical and rational through and through!

ESFJ–
The Control Freak…

I had to take this test for work a few years ago! I gotta get my FI to take it!

I have done these tests so many times and I never get tired of them. I have definitely changed over time and it’s really interesting to look back and see how I have evolved! We did it for our marriage prep too which was great.

However, this is the first time I have seen my “real” personality traits - I am an Idealistic Crackpot. Hilarious and true. ISFP/INFP

FI and I had to take this as our first counseling homework assignment. Our pastor said that he’s never had a couple so very opposite. He’s had couples that differ in one or two, but not all four like us.
I’m an ENFP while FI is an ISTJ.
It really works for us though and makes life a lot of fun.

ISFJ - The Martyr. This was actually quite accurate I think…

I’ll get my fiance to take it when he gets home.

People take this test for marriage counseling sometimes. I am an ISFJ, the Guardian Protector, and he’s an INTJ, the Rational Mastermind… he’ll never let me forget that. Good news is, we’re 87% compatible! ha!

love personality tests. :D i don’t remember what mr. c is but i’m an INFJ. judging from your description, it looks like he would be along the lines of your guy too– and it’s definitely coming out during wedding planning process for me.

I’m ENFJ all the way! We had to take this test in dental school. Not surprisingly, our class is overwhelmingly extroverted.

@Miss Biscuit: Yay for MBTI twins!@SuperBrook: Yin and yang, yin and yang. :)
@DiamondsandLace: I was an ENFP in high school. Once I denounced my procrastinistic ways, I became a J.

Wondering what the results were for the bees who were giving their fiances the “take home” version of this quiz!

I am a huge fan of the MBTI, but I have to say the online versions pale in comparison to the real deal. If you can ever get a proctored, official test, do it!!

I’ve done these twice in class and really like learning about it though! My boyfriend is an ISTJ and I’m an ESTJ who often acts like an ESFJ. So we’re very similar, but he’s introverted which sometimes drives me crazy (not that my E never bothers him hahaha). I think being aware of types is a really big help in a relationship!

I am an ISFJ and my FI was a ENFJ…. Not most compatible but not least compatible either. =)
