The Final Countdown

February 22nd, 2011 @ 6:15 pm by Ms Cheetah

We are dangerously close to single digits in the Cheetah Wedding countdown.

I can’t wait for all these last minute projects to be finished (and out of my house) and I am so freaking excited for our wedding to finally be here. I’m looking forward to standing at the altar with Mr. Cheetah, reciting our vows, surrounded by our nearest and dearest. It’s going to be amazing to be on the dance floor in the best dress I’ll ever wear, dancing the night away with my new spouse and all our fabulous guests. Hearing the toasts our loved ones are writing for us is going to be a beautiful, once in a lifetime experience. But the fact is I’m really going to miss being engaged.

We’ve had ten plus years as a dating couple. We’ll have decades of marriage. But we’ve had only about 10 short months of engagement. Mr. Cheetah has also expressed sadness that this special period in our relationship is almost over.

Being engaged has been fun. Sure, there have been lots (and lots) of stresses and hurdles in planning this wedding, but we’ve also enjoyed it. It’s not every day we get to plan an awesome party for all our favorite people. We’ve enjoyed the genuine interest and excitement that people have for us when they hear that we’re engaged.

We’re sad to end the engagement chapter in our relationship, but we’re ready and thrilled to begin the next one. Here’s to hoping that being a newlywed is just as fun!

Do you like being engaged as much as I do? Or are you ready to have it over with and just be married already?

I love being engaged but I am also so excited for the wedding! I am excited to start our family together and be a Mrs. Although I do love spending time on all our DIY projects, the more time I have until the wedding the more projects I keep finding to do!

You’re not alone here. I love this special time in our relationship. Is it always easy? Hell, no. But it is unlike any other phase we’ll ever go through as a couple. Thanks for writing about this, Cheetah. :)

There are days that I’m just ready to be married, but for the most part I have really enjoyed being engaged!

I definitely go back and forth on this one! Sometimes it feels like our engagement has gone on f-o-r-e-v-e-r, but as you said, when else will we have the opportunity to throw a party of a lifetime? It’s been a wonderful chapter in our lives! You’re almost marrieeeeeddddd!

I am glad you posted this, because I was about to loose my mind ( long story short, it involved invitations and address labels.) but this post made me realize that despite all the times i have felt overwhelmed or about ready to loose my mind in this planning process, that I love being engaged! So thank you very much.

I have loved being engaged… but as the time draws nearer for us (just over three months), I find myself more and more anxious to finally be husband and wife.

I actually really love being engaged, but I’m still trying to get used to using the word “fiance” LOL

@bluestuff: I love that!
@Monca: I feel you there! Invitation assembly is intense.
@Miss Bacon: As soon as it gets normal to say fiancé, it’s about to change to husband/spouse!

I thought I was going to be sad to see the engagement end but I found out the married part is just as good. :-P

On one hand I will miss it because it’s so special and full of excitement, much like when you first start dating. We’ve been dating for almost 9 years so it was such a refreshing feeling. It is sad that it’s coming to an end, but it’s the engagement period is the precursor to what marriage will be like, I’m so full of hope and happiness so I’m beyond thrilled for that. Plus it will end the 6 yr part of our long distance relationship so nothing can beat that :)

Yes I think I can understand, although at the end of it my engagement will be longer (15 months) and almost equal to the time I was with my FI before we got engaged! I am sure I’ll miss being engaged, but hopefully in the same way I miss high school or college (lots of fond memories, but so glad it’s over, with a “been there done that” feeling)
