Mrs. Lox's Picture
Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Just Visiting

February 22nd, 2011 @ 10:37 am by Mrs. Lox

So a couple of weeks ago, I got the call. The fateful call where the woman you haven’t seen for nine months (in my case) contacts you out of the blue. The call to say my dress was in.

What’s funny is that I totally didn’t see what happened next coming. You’d think I would have, but I didn’t. The dress coming in is exciting, right? I mean, I finally would be able to go and try on this thing I shopped so hard for last year. It’s my dress!

I bet you know what happened next. I panicked. Oh yes, I became completely obsessed with what could happen. I’ve lost weight…what if the dress is so big it just falls off of me? (After 11 pounds? Really? A bride’s mind is not always a sane mind.) Or worse! What if it won’t zip up at all? I mean, what if I paid extra for the big-girl size, and the thing still won’t zip up? Will I have to crash diet? Can it be let out? Panic at the disco!

Well, dearest hive, I’m here to tell you none of those things happened. It zipped up easily and stayed where it belonged. There is a little bit of room in it and it needs alterations, but it is just fine. Everything is going to be fine.

What’s that, you say? How did it look? Yes, of course, I took pictures! :)

So down the business now. The top of the dress is hitting too high on me, so I’ll have to have it cut down a bit. Also, I’ll be getting an extra crinoline because it’s not fluffy enough for me. And by the time I hit my first fitting (scheduled for next month—how time flies!) it will definitely need to be taken in more. And yes, it’s too long…I’m standing on a pedestal in that picture.

But seriously? It’s going to be OK. And now I have my very own non-sample dress! It’s all starting to feel so real.

Did you panic over the thought of trying on your dress for the first time, or am I just that much weirder than I thought? :)

YAY! Oh, oh, you look fantastic! I’m so nervous to try on my dress. o.O I should probably schedule a fitting closer to the wedding date; thanks for the reminder. :)

I bought mine off the rack and it’s been sitting in the closet - and I’ve WANTED to try it on at home but can’t get into a corset dress by myself. I am a little fearful of the first fitting coming up in a week…. *crossmyfingersitwillfit*

Your dress is beautiful! You look so pretty! My dress gave me similar fears and they came to reality when my dress actually came in. It is very fitted and literally fits my waist perfectly (I have to do some sucking in to get the inner corset closed though)… so for the next 6.5 months I CAN NOT gain a pound. That is a lot of pressure!

It looks soo pretty! I def had the panic set in right before I went in to try it on. I was worried because we had ordered it a size down than recommended because I had been losing weight. Fortunately, it fit perfectly.

That dress looks beautiful on you!!!

I did panic when my call came in the first time, because I had tried on a sample that was ivory, had a train, and was a standard size…and then ordered a white dress, without the train, in petite. The consultant reassured me that the back would look just like the front (nice and flat, pickups were on the sides - I had ordered without a train because I didn’t want a bustle. I have a big enough butt!!!). When I put it on, it looked like a wedding cake stacked right on my bum. I pretty much burst into tears and ended up having to start my search over. Thankfully, I have a new one, it already came in, and I LOVE it! :-)

Oooh, I love the waist on it! You look fabulous! At first I was really excited about my dress coming in, but now I’m getting kind of nervous! I saw mine in a sample that was a couple of sizes too small and I’m worried that it somehow won’t look the same.

You’re totally right about us sometimes being irrational (I hope, anyway!) :).

Oh it looks so so good on you! Going to be even better after the alterations!

I just went through this panic thing last week, after I got “the call”. Except I was worried that I wouldn’t like my dress anymore. When it came out of the bag on Friday though, I knew I had picked the right one :)
