IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. Mom’s Turn to Shine

February 23rd, 2011 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Lox

When I went to the dress shop to visit my real wedding dress, I wasn’t the only one on a first date with a gown. Momma Lox had ordered her dress at the same time I ordered mine. After some confusion over color, her dress arrived well in advance of mine and had been sitting in the shop waiting for her to come and say hello.

So while I got into my dress and then admired myself in the mirror on the pedestal, Momma Lox went into the dressing room and got changed as well! I have to admit, I was so excited about being in my own dress that I didn’t have a ton of anticipation built up about hers. But then she came out and she looked like this!

Now, poor Momma Lox really had a hard time over this dress. She ordered it the same day I ordered mine, and the color she had chosen was a dusky turquoise. She wanted to match with the wedding but, let’s face it, pale, freckly, red-haired, Irish women do not look hot in bright pink and bright orange. Yellow is also a non-starter. She worried over this, but I told her that it didn’t matter to me what color she wore or what kind of dress she chose. The most important thing was that she felt good in whatever she decided. So she was done. Or so we thought.

A week after she placed her order, the shop called her up. They had made a mistake. The color she selected wasn’t actually available for that dress. Mom let the consultant talk her into a light blue sight unseen. And then she proceeded to worry about the color. And to make matters worse, her dress was in months before mine and she waited for me!

Unfortunately, the dress was too large for her in the bust area. In that picture, the consultant is standing behind her holding the dress so it looks right. Now, obviously, the seamstress is going to fix that right up. And Momma Lox will feel much better when she does.

But with that all out of the way, doesn’t Momma Lox look beautiful in her dress? I really think so. Here’s one more picture for good measure.

(My mother is not actually a wee person. I’m standing on the pedestal in this picture and she isn’t!)

What is your mother wearing to your wedding?

Your mom looks lovely.
My mom decided to sew her own dress. She picked a beautiful floral pattern fabric and I think it will look really pretty. She’s also sewing my BM dresses.

When you said “but I told her that it didn’t matter to me what color she wore or what kind of dress she chose. The most important thing was that she felt good in whatever she decided,” it was exactly how I felt about my mom for our wedding. I took her shopping and found her a dress, shoes, accessories (which she forgot), and a bra to make her feel perfect. She loved it and wants another reason to wear the dress. Great job with your mom and the dress color even though it was unseen until the unveiling.

I love your mom’s dress! My mom won’t match either. She’s wearing a rose pink dress with a jacket set that I bought her a few years ago. Our colors are chocolate and light blue. Hey, our moms match the other’s wedding!

that is a great color for your mom!! i think you both look amazing- i love the last photo of the two of you.

i just went shopping for dresses w/ my mom last weekend and it’s almost more difficult than shopping for my own dress. i want her to feel confident but since my mom does not shop much, finding out that the styles she liked didn’t work for her body was sort of sad to watch! thankfully she did find something that worked and after that whole experience, i get all happy when i see mamas that are pleased with their outfits.

um. sorry for the massive comment.

My mother didn’t want to look like a “Mom” either, so we skipped the MOB dresses and looked at the BM dresses.
This is what she picked:

It’s from David’s Bridal and she could easily cut it short after the wedding (FOR REAL, not what I “should” say) and wear it again.
