Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

Book of Love

February 23rd, 2011 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Ostrich

“A book is a gift you can open again and again.” - Garrison Keillor

Hive, I’m excited to introduce you to someone…our ring pillow-but-not-a-pillow! :)

Here she is!

A bride bookworm + a groom writer = no pillow. And the title of this book aptly sums up the Ostrich love story and the stories we’ll be writing year after year. Oh, and it has a zebra print book cover. OBSESSED.

So, this beauty is now resting in our bookcase, waiting to be dressed up and taken to the party. We have an army of ribbon in our wedding craft corner, so we’re thinking of wrapping her with a few of our favorites— vintage coral, blush, pale gray, and sparkly rose gold and silver ribbon—and tying our rings on top alongside a bloom or two. Like this…without the Spanish moss and twigs. Ah, you get the picture, right?

But…I had to get a ring bowl, too. How could I say no to this?

My heart strings pull a little every time my eyes fall on this dreamy ring bowl by the popular Paloma’s Nest. e.e. cummings’ i carry your heart is one of the most swoon-worthy poems of all time…don’t you agree? And just thinking of our wedding rings sitting inside it gives me tingles all over. *tingle* :)

So that’s where the Ostrich rings will be chillin’ on our wedding day.

Where will your rings be sitting pretty on your wedding day? I’m excited to hear what you’re doing!

The zebra-print totally rocks. I tried to suggest a book ring-”pillow” to my FI. He was not a fan :) Ah, well. You win some, you lose some.

How I wish we used the bowl, but we didn’t. Another thing we forgot until I was looking at pictures. Oops. Love the book.

I have been a huge fan of using something other than a pillow for the rings…we are actually going to use my fiance’s baseball glove, as he is huge into baseball and still plays. I thought it was something that would add a unique touch to our ceremony.

We aren’t having our rings carried down, but I still want one of those bowls!

@Miss Elephant: I know me too! I was going to give it to the best man to bring from his pocket because I can’t think of anyone who would have those bowls… they are pretty though :)

My rings are going up the aisle in the officiant’s pocket. Your idea is way better! :)

Oh… we haven’t even thought of this. I assume we’ll have his brother/best man hold them in his pocket failing all else.

@Miss Pain au Chocolat: I’m making the same assumption! Although, those Paloma’s Nest bowls are so pretty…

That poem is definitely swoon-worthy, Miss O!

Oh man, no clue what we’re doing, but I love your idea! Actually, we’ll probably do exactly what Lox is doing haha.

That book is PERFECT for you. Also, one of the most romantic poems ever. EVER. I want to use that in our program, somewhere.

I seriously can’t remember who had our rings on our wedding day (scary much?). I guess our MOH and best man? Ha ha

“I Married Adventure” so cool! I was curious so I Googled images and found some fun ones:
The John’s reading a larger than life copy of the book: http://davidlansing.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Kenya-Osa-book.jpg

I’m LOVING the idea of a book as a ring pillow, now thinking that having Mr Nerd’s and my favorite book stacked on top of each other with a big ribbon around them and the rings tied to the bow in the center would be GREAT! Thanks so much for this idea!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a great idea!
We totally have not decided what we are doing with our rings yet. It wasn’t until last week that we agreed that we would be having a ring bearer ( I totes thought we would skip on that–I was wrong).

That bowl is adorable, made even more desirable for my ever abiding adoration for e.e.cummings.

We used this book as our “ring pillow” too, since our story mirrors theirs quite closely. LOVE IT!
