Chalk It Up!

February 23rd, 2011 @ 12:31 pm by Ms. Sloth

With just two and a half months left till W-Day (holy crap holy crap holy crap), I’ve been pretty much living in Wedding Detail Land. I’ve been assembling invitations, creating table numbers, making table overlays, and putting the finishing touches on my brooch bouquet. But none of those projects are complete yet, so you’ll have to wait to see how they turned out.

I did manage to check one item off my DIY list, though. And it was a super easy and cheap project that cost less than $5 and took about 30 minutes (not counting a day of paint-drying time).

See, I was at my mother’s over the weekend, poking around her garage, and I found three framed pictures that, back in the ’90s, were hanging over her mantel.

(I was a bad blogger and forgot to take a photo until I’d already disassemble them from their frames. Sorry.)

Mom was more than happy to let me take them. On my way home, I stopped at Home Depot and for about five bucks, purchased a can of Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Spray Paint. I brought everything home and sprayed a few coats of the paint right onto the pictures.

24 hours later, they were all dry, and I reassembled them.

And that was that! Now I have three awesome chalkboards, for five bucks!

Now, as far as the actual plans for these chalkboards, well, that depends. One or two of them (depending on how small and neatly I can write) will be used in lieu of escort cards, similar to this:

Another will be used for our menu, like this:

And, if we do only use one for the seating chart, the third chalkboard will be used as a sort of program, since we won’t be printing any out.

This was pretty much the easiest project on the planet, and the cheapest as well. Score!

What was your easiest DIY project for your wedding?

Another possible cool thing is that you can either reuse after wedding, or sell them! I always see chalkboards going like crazy on the classifieds.

Oh man, date twin, I’m with you on the details! Of course, I procrastinated and haven’t even finished designing our invites yet.

Good luck!!

Awesome ideas! :) Your frames came out great!

Love the idea esp. too of the chalkboard for the program…(or even printing 1 big program (chalkboard or otherwise). ;)

Hmm…probably the ‘easiest’ DIY will be our table numbers
