Mrs. Cotton Candy's Picture
Mrs. Cotton Candy, Riverside, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Field Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Process Server Engagement Date: July 5, 2007 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Riverside Art Museum About Me: I’m a girl in love with her best friend planning a small mid-century modern inspired wedding that’s been a long time coming. I love all things design, sewing, flea markets, and a good book. I’ve been known to swoon over a well-designed chair and often find myself craving a new addition to my chair collection regardless of the lack square footage in our home. I’m Mexican American girl who hates all things spicy but loves her rowdy Mexican family and her Latin roots. My wedding muses may not be your typical wedding superstars, but with a lot of DIY, a dash of offbeat style, and lots of love and laughs, Mr. Cotton and I plan to create a day that is unmistakably us.
About Mrs. Cotton Candy

*Quote by Jonathan Adler, a man after my own heart.

Yes, Jonathan Adler, you are speaking my language! I’m a color freak; I mix them with abandon and live by the mantra that, done right, no colors can clash. Being the color freak that I am, I spent a long time finding our perfect color inspiration, and it finally came in the form of this little print by artist Charley Harper.

We Believe Colors Can't Clash* : wedding color schemes riverside Charlie Source

I love Charley Harper’s prints; his amazing use of color and simplistic illustration make for a beautiful, bold statement. I first came across the work of Charley Harper and the Blackburnian Warbler illustration in my beloved Handmade Modern book. I loved the bright punch of color—the unexpected combination of pool, chartreuse, and orange—and knew that I wanted to incorporate his work and this print into our wedding. The obvious choice for me was to use the print as the basis for our color scheme. To mellow out the three colors and to add a bit of masculinity, we added in a slate gray and—ta-da!—we had our wedding palette!

We Believe Colors Can't Clash* : wedding color schemes riverside Color2 I love our color palette. All four colors are are present in our daily lives, whether it be in our wardrobes or interior design. It makes me happy to know that the color palette we’ve decided on is very us and representative of our own personal style.

How did you land on a color palette? Do you have one, or are you flying by the seat of your pants?

I am obsessed with your palette. If we were having a more modern wedding, I definitely would have worked in orange and aqua somehow. That print is awesome, too!

Lovely! Those colors work so well together!
My FI and I decided on our colors long before we were even engaged. We went to different colleges that had the same school colors, and one night got to talking about how purple and gold would make such great wedding colors. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

I’ve had this color combination in my head from the beginning of various shades of blue and green but have never found anything that put them together. I actually found it just last night in Handmade Modern (the clock design near the back). I was super excited!

awesome!! LOVE the colors and love the inspiration. the addition of grey is perfect! I can’t wait to see how this translates into your day :) I ended up picking colors I never thought I would go for: pink and orange. Not that I never liked those colors (like you, i love ALL color) but I never saw myself as a “pink wedding” kind of girl and always loved cool light blues and soft turqs. then i actually got engaged and found myself really really drawn to pinks! also, we chose an aquarium for our venue and I thought cool colors would be too literal, so warm it was, and pink it was! Specifically coral pink and soft orange with accents of gold and lots of white.

I love your colors…thanks so much for the inspiration. I wanted to work in my favorite color (orange) without being overwhelming or too bright and summery. Your colors are a perfect balance. Thanks for sharing.

Our colour palette was inspired by a Jennifer Moore print (floral summer for Robert Kaufmann) with a little influence from Miss Cinnamon Buns on the love of blues & greens– we plan on using the design scheme for our invites & save the dates as well. :)
