After a few minutes together we mostly just looked at each other and said, “Oh my gosh, we’re married!” We scarfed down some hors d’oeuvres (thank you caterers!), fixed my bustle, and we were ready to join our guests for the reception.

Seudat Mitzvah - The Wedding Feast

The newly married couple will then join their guests at the reception. There is dancing, singing and, of course, some more eating. It is a commandment for the guests to dance and sing with the couple, further elevating their joy throughout the night. This is your chance to show off those hot new dance moves. The meal concludes with a special Bircat HaMazon (Grace after meals), and the sheva brachot are recited again by friends and family of the bride and groom.

In case you’re wondering, we entered to the band playing “the Final Countdown” by Europe. It was SO SO awesome!

No sooner had we stepped on the dance floor…

The dancing began!

Hermit Crab wedding tip #19: Yichud - the moments after the ceremony and before the reception, when Mr. HC had a few minutes to ourselves, was one of my favorite times of the whole day. We had a few minutes to collect ourselves, enjoy the moments immediately following our marriage, and eat (for basically the last time during the wedding!). It was peaceful and wonderful, and I often think back to those special moments. If you have an opportunity to do something like, please take it!
