Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

Before engagement and before blogging, the Brooches would have thought anyone considering a first look were crazy. We were of the mind that a first look would take away from the emotion of seeing each other at the ceremony.

Nothing was worth that look on his face, right?

Well, fast forward a few months and lots of blog posts later, I’m all about the first look! I’ve heard raving reviews about it: less strain logistically, more time to connect, and all the other reasons people advocate for it. Mr. B, on the other hand, was still stuck in traditionalist land. He was hell-bent on having our first look happen at our ceremony. That is, until he saw first look photos by Meredith of & Unlimited, our photographer.

The proof is in the pictures y’all! Meredith’s pictures are gorgeous and she has a special talent for producing the most picturesque first look photos. Mr. B caught on right away, and he had what we like to call a change of heart. It’s no wonder:

There’s not one ounce of emotion missing from these pictures! You can totally see the bride, you can totally see the groom, and seriously, come on, aren’t these really, really good?

I can’t tell you how good it feels to love our photographer. I love checking her blog every day, and there hasn’t been one photo of hers I disliked yet. It’s funny because as I put together the decorations and details of our day (such as our wedding wands and chalkboards), I think to myself: I can’t wait to see how Meredith captures this on camera! It’s such an awesome feeling.

I hope you love your photographer, and are excited to have them on your team! At the end of the day, when it’s all over, I think all we really have our the memories and the pictures. Has your photographer influenced any of your wedding day decisions? Are you doing a first look?

we’ll be having our call with our photographer, max, in the next 2 weeks and we’re looking forward to hearing what he has up his sleeve. ;) yay for 1st looks - i’d be a blubbering, makeup streaked mess if we didn’t have one!

We did a first look, and it was fabulous. It in no way diminished from the walking down the aisle moment, and as we got married late afternoon it allowed us to take fabulous photos in good lighting prior to the ceremony.
The above photos certainly are wonderful, and I know I cherish mine : )

Oh I’m all about how all of the decor we’ve gathered will be captured on film. I can’t wait to see what pretty pictures they make!
And yes- we’re super excited about the first look. We liked the idea of it anyway, but then because of light this time of year we kind of HAVE to see each other ahead of time if we want nice light for our portraits. :)

Yes! I know exactly what you mean about loving your photographer. After planning a wedding in the South from across the country, I get frustrated all the time with people not calling or e-mailing me back, or taking their sweet time to do so. Our photographer always responds quickly, posts the most beautiful pictures on her blog and Facebook page, and even referred us to our DJ. <3

I love first looks! We were originally in the no first looks category, but we too were won over by the gorgeous first look pics :)

I was hellbent on tradition when I first started out, and went through the same evolution that you did. As it turned out, even after we did the first look, I was still so overwhelmed with emotion walking down the aisle that I could only just barely hold it together. If ditching the first look would have made that moment more powerful, then I don’t want to know how badly I would have lost it!

I think we are doing a first look…Mr. Magic was confused when I first brought it up, but then he caught on. We both think it will ease our nerves a bit more…plus the pretty pics!

We had our ceremony and reception in the same room at our venue, which was an historic building. The dressing room was off the main room and my husband was the one who came to the dressing room door to let me know it was time. The look on his face when I opened the door was something I will never forget :) I am all for first look moments :)

Mr. B looks dumbfounded, and I mean that in the nicest way.

We did a first look, and we’re so glad we did… Since we eloped, it was all about the two of us anyway, but it was just so special.
