Mrs. Lox's Picture
Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.

Change of Plans

February 25th, 2011 @ 12:58 pm by Mrs. Lox

So, it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, right? I mean, don’t panic. I’m still keeping my dress, my shoes, and, well…one of my hair flowers. But I’m starting to rethink my hairstyle. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, so hear me out. If I’m uncomfortable with my curls, then why would I want to wear a curly style on my wedding day?

The problem is that, to me, soft romantic hairstyles mean curls. So I began to think that maybe, just maybe, the problem is in my head. Straight hair can be soft and romantic, too! So I did what any bride in my situation would have done…I took to the internet to find some pictures.

First, I had some trouble breaking out of my comfort zone. Sure this is straight—right up until the curly ends. I like it, but maybe I should keep trying.

OK, so this is actually a little bit big for me. So besides the fact that I don’t have enough hair to make something this big, I am digging the side-swept bangs. They really soften up this straight ‘do. Now we’re onto something.

Now we’re talking! I really love the side-swept bangs in these pictures. It’s soft. It’s romantic. And it’s straight. But what about the back of my hair?

I don’t know why, but I’m really feeling this. It’s soft and romantic. It’s straight. And it’s somehow architecturally appealing without being overly fussy. I can’t really explain it, but I feel drawn to this.

What do you think, hive? And did you find yourself changing your mind over your wedding-day appearance?

the bottom pic was one of my inspiration pics as well!
Mrs. CB’s hair was actually my full inspiration for my hair stylist. :)

Even if you do pick a style with curls for your wedding, it doesn’t have to be natural curls. In the first pic it looks like they did those with a curling iron. You can still have curly, and they don’t have to be YOUR curls.

I love the side sweep bang and the softness it will give to your face. I unfortunately have short hairs that always come undone and makes me continue to push it out of my face… I say go for it and I will live through you. :-)

The bottom picture was my number one inspiration pic! I ended up going with something a little different after a talked to my stylist and had a trial, but that last pic still holds a special place in my heart!

I seem to change my mind daily on how I’d like to wear my hair. I’m digging all of your inspiration photos! Like the gals before me, that last one is a fave of mine, too. :)

I don’t know what’s happening on my head for the wedding.. definitely going to be one to change my mind alot too. I love your inspiration photos here though.. I think a combo of the side swept bangs plus that last photo there would be amazing on you. I love that it’s not fussy but still so pretty.

I think you should style your hair in the way you will feel best in, so at least try it out! But I have two considerations:
1. I also have curly hair, and my FI loves that about me! I would not straighten my hair completely for my wedding because I know he likes my curls better! Does your FI have any preferences?
2. As it could always rain, I prefer to have a hairstyle that will still somewhat keep even if the hair got a bit damp. So if it was too straight and it would rain even a little bit, my hair would go all fizzy and curly and it would look awful.
Having said that, choose the style you like yourself best in!

Strangely enough, that first picture is ME!!!!!! So weird. Anyway, I have stick straight hair but my girl curled it with an iron, used a ton of hairspray, and then pinned it up. It mostly stayed put (except you can see wisps coming out in the pic - that was towards the end of the day).

The last picture was the same exact one as the inspiration for the last brides hair I did. The knot is fantastic for inspiration. It turned out very nice. I love that it takes a traditional hair do, the french twist, and makes it modern and by have it go from side to side instead of up and down. We cliped a feather hair flower to the side of hers and it turned out amazing!

I love all the soft, romantic up do’s! Curls are definitely achievable if that is what you want. My hair is straight, fine, and thin but I wanted soft curls that fit in to our 1920’s era theme. I used a light-weight setting lotion and sponge rollers and my curls stayed in all day. :)

The bottom pic was one of my inspiration pics too - and when I didn’t use it, I put it straight to the bridesmaid-hair-inspiration folder. :P

That last pic was my first inspiration photo: I used to for my trial before my wedding shower, but ultimately went with my low chignon in the end - there are some pics of it here http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/06/17/tampa-wedding-shower/
