About Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

The bridesmaids’ dresses arrived a few weeks ago, and I am just now getting around to picking them up. To explain, the shop is 45 minutes away and the weeks leading up to the holidays were a bit, ahem, hectic. I also wanted my local bridesmaid, BM R, to join me. She’s a wedding expert and my advocate when I’m being too polite…so if the dress, color, or something else was not as ordered, all would be fixed.

*Tangent Warning*

While the dresses were retrieved from the lower level, BM R and I browsed the bridal gowns. (You won’t mind the distraction, will you?)

Mmmm, texture.

One of the window displays had a gorgeous ethereal gown that floated out into vertical layers. I motioned BM R over and whispered, “This is why they tell you NOT to look at dresses after you buy yours.”

Trouble.

Another mannequin had a tulle skirt so large the diameter must have been nearly eight feet—impressive and delicate. This grand gown was right up R’s alley (see background in photo below).

There was a whole rack of new-to-me gowns that bore a striking resemblance to Vera Wang gowns. Then I looked up at the sign. Vera Wang. Oh. I felt daft. (When did this partnership happen?! I’m on the email list and semi-stalk bridal gowns—still. All I could find was the partnership with Priscilla’s parent company, David’s Bridal, and new collection for release in 2011. It makes sense PoB would become a retailer for Vera gowns.)

*End Tangent*

The bridesmaids’ gowns arrived. We lifted the plastic wrap to peek at the color.

Me: Wow, it’s really yellow. [Was I expecting blue? Hellooo.] Nervous glance at BM R. You OK with this color?

R: Yup.

Me: You sure? Because…it’s not like we can change our minds.

All joking aside, the color is on point. Exactly what I was hoping for. It’s not too pale (a concern), and the hue doesn’t veer into mustard, yellow-orange, or yellow-green territory. It will look fantastic with their golden summer tans.

But before we left the salon, I couldn’t resist doing one more thing…

Were you satisfied with the color of your bridesmaids’ gowns? Did your crew wear the same color or mix it up?

That dress is gorgeous! I love the color too. I am letting my girls pick their dresses in the pink family, but I am getting so many questions about it. Im thinking I might just have to pick a dress and tell them to wear it lol
So much for being nice hehehe

I love the color and fabric of your BM dresses! And, what a cliff-hanger of an ending. ;) Now I’m really curious about what you did before leaving the shop!

@HoneyBear: This happened to me. I told the girls pick a pink colored dress that is knee length and got so many questions I changed my mind and picked it for them. We’re all much happier this way. lol

The dress is SO CUTE. I’m not a huge fan of yellow, but I really like the color and design of those dresses. I only have one attendant, my MOH, and we are picking her dress together. I’m cool with whatever she choses, as long as it’s Royal to Navy blue and floor length. My MOH has better taste than me, so she’s my fashion consultant. Again, Great Dress! :)

You tried on some Vera, didn’t you?! Haha, I’m glad my local stores don’t carry them or I’d have been tempted to do the same thing when I went in to pick up my dress last week!

Hope I’m right and that some pics are coming up!

@Miss Tartlet: The canary crinkle chiffon really worked out. I’m still holding my sister’s dress “hostage” — I mean, I haven’t got around to mailing it to her yet.
@Roux: hehehe maybeeeeee, but it’s not what you think!
@kelsgurl: I SO wish! Do you think I could go back after buying a dress and try them on for fun?!
@Terrio: Priscilla of Boston in Ardmore, PA. If you love texture, you’ll be very happy there! I am obsessed with texture and found many gowns to love. The material of the girls’ gowns is silk crinkle chiffon. Very lightweight and lots of movement.
@LilMrsChamp: My MOH/sister is my fashionista so generally what she says goes. Except in the case of the tulip skirt. Aieee!
@Miss Lox: heehee, I try not to be (too often).

One of my favorite BM dresses was yellow :). I went for years thinking I looked horrible in yellow until I tried a yellow shirt on one day. Now I love it. I think it’s a lot more wearable than people think. Poor yellow gets a bad rep.

Gorgeous dresses! And something they could easily wear again! I can’t wait to sort out my bridesmaid dresses!

Yesterday, I paid the deposit on my groomsmen’s suits! I’ve written about it on my blog, franswedding.blogspot.com

Cute BM gown! :)
Nice tangent too..;)

Yeah, my main color is dark purple - like eggplant shade - ideally. When my BMs ended up picking their dresses - it happened to be the same one and it’s a satin material and the dark purple is REALLY dark.. I was actually surprised… Though, I think it will look nice overall. (I hope..;) )

I am afraid the color will show up as dark blue in the photos…but at this point I don’t have a choice and just am going with it..;)
