Accessory Obsession

February 27th, 2011 @ 6:35 pm by Mrs. Crepe

I wasn’t always like this. When I went shopping for prom, my accessories were last-minute decisions. Like, “Oh right, I need a bag to put my keys in.” My earrings were from Claire’s. It was just the most convenient place to find some earrings on the fly. No premeditated thought required.

Now that I’m a jewelry designer, I spend all day staring at accessories. Every little detail on each accessory is pored over and scrutinized. It is now, officially, an obsession. Which I’m actually OK with because it sort of has to do with my job, right?

Anyway, I realize that I’m probably not going to be toting around much on my wedding day, but after I saw Mrs. Cowboy Boots’s post about her vintage-clutch score, I was a woman obsessed. I became completely fixated on this one specific detail, and the only way to relieve it was to obtain THE PERFECT vintage clutch so that I could move on. Yes, I understand that this is an illness.

I let my fingers do the walking and searched high and low until I had a folder full of beautiful clutches. There is a happy ending to my search, but in the meantime, for those of you shopping around, let me share the ones I didn’t end up getting—and only because I do not have unlimited resources. I can’t tell you how much I would love to have purchased every last one of these beauties.

There are a few here that have been snatched up already, but there are so many other options out there if you just do a little browsing.

Can’t wait to show you the bag I bought! Is there a wedding accessory you’ve been obsessing about?

I really hadn’t thought about ths until my mother brought it up. She is providing my something old, it was the same clutch she carried on her wedding day. I wish I had a photo to share with you but it’s been taken to have some sequins re-attached. :)

@ms_nickie: I would love to see it if you have a photo when it’s all fixed up! I wish I had a clutch that was passed down. I think that’s such a lovely thing to carry with you on your special day.

@everyone: glad you approve my options! :D Shopping is fun~

How fun! I love vintage purses! I have seen a style that uses antique linens with a monogram… and I love linens and monograms! So it’s on my list!

#3 made me laugh, because I have that purse; I bought it in 11th grade for the Homecoming dance, though in black. Is 1997 considered vintage now? Hee.

@Missbliss: That sounds really interesting.. I don’t think I’ve seen that!

@occhiblu: Haha I debated whether or not that counts as vintage, but I think the seller listed it as such so I threw it in there!

@Miss Pain au Chocolat: Love that you are like the only person to actually answer my question. Hahah thanks Miss PaC. If you need any help on the jewelry front, you know who’s got your back. :D

Sigh….I was not even THINKING about clutches until your post :)
Then all of a sudden, I copied your “woman on a mission” style and spent the entire day looking at beaded clutches (for my rehearsal dinner). So I wanted to share with others:
La Regale makes really pretty beaded clutches and come in a variety of prices. I ended up buying one from amazon here:

There are also a ton of options if you google search the brand, or hit up shopstyle..

Happy hunting!

I hardly thought of my accessories, sadly! I ended up being able to wear a beautiful pearl necklace of my grandma’s-and I don’t even remember the earrings I wore!

I have been obsessing about shoes for the wedding, but then again, there is very little time that I am not obsessing over shoes ;)

While I obsessed over my jewelry, a bridal clutch was one of those things I didn’t care much about (I think I was tired of spending money by that point). Then my aunt told me she had a couple of bags that had been my grandmother’s - so I ended up with a borrowed vintage beaded bag! It looked a lot like #3, in that funky shell style, but it was ivory. Score!
