Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

OK, I know I said there would be no more tears, but I forgot about this one! I pretty much cried through my entire dance with my dad. Once you hear the song you may understand why. I tried my best to suck it up and brush them away, but eventually the chorus would roll around again and bring fresh tears to my eyes.

I can’t really remember what we talked about—I was so emotional. I remember feeling like this moment was a long time coming. I’d been away from home for so many years, traveling for dance and my dad was always very supportive of my choices, even if they were ones he would not have made. He’d been so warm to more than one boyfriend over the years and finally the moment of us dancing together at my wedding felt like, you know, pretty big. Isn’t that what dads think about the minute they welcome a baby girl into the world? The weight of our journey to this moment hit me pretty hard.

I thought this photo of my family standing with their arms wrapped around each other while we were dancing, was so cute. Mr. Barrettes is definitely singing along.

Wah! I was such a cry baby. Some of our guests later told me that they hadn’t cried during the wedding, but they got a little weepy watching our father/daughter dance. Mr. Barrettes’ dance with his mom was a lot more fun and entertaining!

Did you lose it with your dad? What song did you dance to?

Ohhhh I love this song. Listening to it while reading your post made me tear up, especially at the first and last photo. That doesn’t bode well for me holding it together during the father/daughter dance…

B, I just got chills. This is the exact song (and version of the song) that my dad and I decided upon. Wow. So beautiful.

Mrs. B you are killing it with your song selections. I was going to use this song as well but I can’t even get through listening it without blubbering so I don’t know if I can handle it!

I’m loving your wedding recaps. At the end of the day, we can obsess over details and projects, but a wedding is 99% about the emotions about the people involved on the day of. And your posts are displaying that perfectly.

Mrs. B - I totally cried when I heard what the song was, in fact, that song actually makes me cry almost every single time. I am really early in the process - don’t even have a date yet, but you just helped me realize that song is exactly what I want to dance with my dad to, I just hadn’t realized it yet. Also, you look beautiful and I love what you said about your dance with your dad.

I know I’m going to be a hot mess during this part of the reception. I am surprising my Dad and having the DJ play “The Gambler” (Kenny Rogers). It is our favorite song to sing together. :D

I totally cried…and made my dad cry. The song was ” I loved her first” by Heartland.

I can’t blame you for crying because I teared up just playing the song and reading your blog. GREAT song and it’s exactly why I have to have a somewhat upbeat song for my father/daughter dance. My dad wants to dance to You Make Me Feel So Young and I want to dance to My Girl.

If I can’t make it thru a Barrettes recap without getting misty eyed, how in the world will I hold it together when I dance with my dad? Loving the funny photos of your mister singing along and the sweet ones of you and your dad.

@skbride: Thank you. Yes, while we did do a few projects, the things guests most remember are their feelings!

@thekindbride: Surprising your dad is cute! Hope he doesn’t loose it!

@Shipanak: Aww– My Girl sounds like it would be a really sweet moment.

@Miss Pain au Chocolat: Have plenty of tissues in your bra, girlfriend!!!
