About Mrs. Hermit Crab

Many of you have probably participated in some sort of horah, many of you may not have. Well, when I say we had the horah to end all horahs, I would not be exaggerating! I am giving you a quickie sound bite of many of the tunes that our band played for our over-45-minute dance session! I think you will enjoy this post more if you have it playing in the background—be prepared, it’s not your usual horah music! I don’t know if I can really show you the energy, the enthusiasm, the FUN, the awesomeness that was the first part of the dancing, but I will try!

I should say here, I don’t think I have said enough about our band. I found Nafshenu online, and I quickly became their biggest fan from the demo CD they sent me! They kept the party moving from start to finish, totally read our crowd, played every song just as I had imagined it, and were so amazing from cocktail hour through to the end. People were asking if they would stay and play longer! If you are looking for a band that can play a wide variety of both Jewish and secular music, and play it well, I will totally, totally recommend Nafshenu! I will be highlighting their Jewish music in my posts, but believe me, they played everything from “The Final Countdown” to “Living on a Prayer” to “Shout!” with ease!I wish I could put all of their music in, I loved it so much (I even have their CD on as I write!).

This post is picture heavy—plenty to keep you busy while the song plays!

Hermit Crab wedding tip #20:

We knew that “Jewish dancing” was going to be new for most of our guests, but it was something that we really wanted. I am SO happy that we did—we had people on their feet for 45 minutes and some of our non-Jewish friends had the most fun! You have a tradition you want to include, but you think it may be unfamiliar to many (or even most!) of your guests? Go for it!

I loved our hora! Seriously, it may be my favorite part of our reception because every single guest was on their feet and a lot of them even getting into the action. GOing up on the chair was the scariest thing but so much fun! Our guests loved it and most of them werent even Jewish!

Your Horah was over 45 mins long?!?!? That might be the ultimate Horah of all Horahs! I am very impressed and it looks like a total blast!

The first time I went to a Jewish wedding I was in awe - and SO JEALOUS that I could not have a Jewish wedding. There are so many wonderful traditions - the ketubah, the chuppah (I begged for one but was shot down). I love the dancing, the hora, and the community spirit - everyone ends up dancing and it’s so fun. It looks like you had a blast!

I have to say one of the things I’m looking forward to most at our wedding is the horah. I know it’s going to be new for a lot of people, and I have to admit one of my biggest fears is that people won’t be joining in.
