Mrs. Jam, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer Engagement Date: December 23, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.

Word of the Day: DUBS

February 8th, 2011 @ 12:04 pm by Mrs. Jam

Dubs [duhbz]: noun, a fold of fat beneath the chin; slang for double chin.

“When you look down, I can see your dubs.”

And that, my friends, is Jam-clique lingo, otherwise known as the primary reason we untag Facebook photos. The dubs come out uncontrollably, especially when we’re laughing or looking down…and sometimes without purpose. I recently realized that I have dubs every single time I look down at my phone, which happens to be about 5,000 times a day.

Proof:

Oh my heavens above, I can’t believe I just posted this photo for all to see. There are plenty more where this came from, but I’ll leave them to your imagination. You can thank me later.

Mrs. Pancakes's Picture
Mrs. Pancakes, New York/Costa Rica Age and Occupation: 26, Law School Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Latin American Policy Analyst Engagement Date: March 12, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Casa Punto de Vista About Me: I’m a perfectionist with a big heart. I love a good laugh and firmly believe no one has ever regretted being prepared! My motto is “go big or go home.” I am incapable of doing anything in moderation, especially when it comes to shopping, TV, food and travel, and some would say wedding planning! The other half of this nearlywed team is a laid-back, adventure-loving, accident prone, sweetie from LA. He makes me laugh, is always down for an impromptu dance party, and totally indulges most of my hare-brained schemes. Now, in my final year of law school, we’ll be spending the spring abroad in Amsterdam and planning a DIY, whimsical, detail-filled destination wedding in Costa Rica!

When to Wed

February 8th, 2011 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Pancakes

I’ve been having a difficult time deciding exactly what time to have my (our…why do I keep doing that?) ceremony. As you may or may not remember, Mr. Pancakes and I REALLY want to have a morning wedding. Practically, it’ll allow our guests to enjoy their day in Costa Rica. Also, it’ll be the rainy season, and the morning is the best time for a rain-free ceremony. Personally, we love the morning, and we are super impatient (like children on Christmas morning) and don’t want to have to wait all day to get married. Recently, my wedding planner let me know that 9 AM would probably be the best time to have the wedding…and I was a little panicked! I would LOVE to have an early morning wedding. In fact, I used to dream about having a sunrise ceremony. I just loved the idea of starting the day off with a wedding and just spending the whole day celebrating.

The problem is that I don’t want to deal with all the griping and complaining that comes with an early morning wedding. I already feel selfish for choosing a destination wedding, but now to make people get up at eight in the morning on their vacation!?

Then I saw this:

I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? The Ideas That Won’t Be

February 8th, 2011 @ 10:39 am by Mrs. Eggs Benedict

We’re getting down to the nitty-gritty over here (even though there’s still SO much left to do!), but sometimes I can’t help but look through some of my saved inspiration photos and see so many things that I would have loved to incorporate into our wedding. If only there were more time or money, or if we went a different direction…but, of course, you can’t have everything that’s out there, no matter how pretty!

So, instead, I’ll share them here in hopes that someone out there is inspired by these!

Travel (near or far), good wine, and tasty food makes my heart sing. I'm a compulsive list-maker who lives to plan and organize. Mr. P and I have lived together for 4 years, all the while renovating our city townhome bit by bit. We're planning a whimsical, Anthropologie-inspired garden wedding in June 2011.
About Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. In honor of the two weeks of Chinese New Year celebrations going on around the world, I figured this would be the perfect time to talk about the Baconlicious Tea Ceremony we’re going to have!

Please Don’t Let Me Be Ugly

February 8th, 2011 @ 9:12 am by Mrs. Meerkat

So it’s time for one of those honesty in blogging moments.

All during our wedding planning, one of my biggest fears was that I would be ugly in our wedding photos. No, this isn’t a tell-Mrs.-Meerkat-she’s-not-a-ugo post. This is one of those let’s-be-realistic posts.

When you spend so much time looking at photos of GORGEOUS brides on wedding blogs there is a standard that gets set in the back of your mind. I don’t even know when the standard got set for me but now when I look at some of our wedding photos, I think, “I don’t look like those brides I see on blogs.”

To Do or Not To Do

February 8th, 2011 @ 8:14 am by Mrs. Lox

So, with roughly three months left until the wedding, I am starting that not-so-slow slide into panic over my to-do list. Actually, if I’m totally honest with you? I’ve been trying to avoid the panic by avoiding the list. Somehow I think this is not the best of strategies.

So today, I am getting real with myself. And apparently in order to have this little moment with myself, I need to be accountable to the hive. And so it goes. Remember this little guy?

I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Are you ready, hive?

I come to you with an eye tutorial! Finally! I’ve been asked so many times to do an eye tutorial, and I’ll be honest, I’ve been putting it off because it’s so incredibly time consuming. About Mrs. Hermit Crab

Our families joined us in the Rose Garden for a few family photos. This turned out to be a really nice part of the day because it was really the only time that we were alone with just our families.

Also, remember when I posted about giving everyone very vague instructions on what to wear (you can read about it here)? Basically, I only said, “wear jewel tones.” Let me know how you think they did! (Just for the record, I thought they all looked amazing!)

Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

It’s hard to remember how the ceremony began. The moments happen so quickly—I’m walking down the aisle, kissing my dad, then I’m holding Mr. Barrettes’ hands and standing in front of Dr. Houtz. The guests gathered to witness us tie the knot fade into a beautiful background and I’m absorbed into the moment. My eyes dart back and forth between my groom’s and the reverend’s and I’m just trying to remember to breathe. The thrill is beyond.
