In honor of this weekend’s Oscar extravaganza, I met up with friendor and makeup artist extraordinaire, Tina, for the long awaited makeup trial…and red carpet swooning.
I carried with me some of my favorite inspiration photos that I shared with the hive a few months ago…remember this?

My dream makeup look, striking the perfect balance of drama (the eyes) and natural beauty. And that light coral lip is sooooo pretty. I shared what specifically I loved about this look to Tina and also told her what I wanted to avoid (not heavy, no super dark eyes) so she knew my boundaries. The more specific you can be with your makeup artist about what look you want (natural or glam, colors, areas to highlight—photos are SO helpful!) and don’t want, the better chance you have of getting the look you’ve been dreaming of.
Mr. O also chimed in about his thoughts on makeup:
“Babe, I just wanna let you know that you’re more beautiful without makeup.” He’s the sweetest, my guy.
And so on Sunday afternoon, I arrived to Tina’s place as my sans makeup self to get schooled on primer, bronzer, eye shadow, blush and all that other goodness I’ve missed out on all these years. I look so excited!

Creams, powders, waterproof this and mixing this with that. And the brushes! Tina must’ve used 5 or 6 different brushes of every shape and size. I tried to take note of everything she was doing but quickly realized, as she blended so many colors to achieve the perfect shades for my eyes and lips (and while I was anxiously awaiting to see what gorgeousness Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and OMG Jennifer Hudson! would be wearing), that I would have to ask her for this secret Ostrich makeup recipe later.
And finally, around the presentation of the Animated film awards, Tina’s masterpiece was complete…and Iloved it. It was perfect, a translated version from my favorite inspiration pic. But now almost evening, picture taking lighting was not our friend. I wandered off to the bathroom so I could have one decent photo of Tina’s beauty brilliance to share with the hive, but this photo still doesn’t do it justice. We’ll just have to wait for the recaps!

And with three makeup wipes in hand, within minutes I was back to my natural, no makeup-self. But I’ve been sneaking peeks at these photos on my phone every chance I get—add the long, wavy ’do, deco beaded dress and a few rose gold accessories and this bee will be all set for a beach wedding.
Did you end up with the look you were dreaming of during your makeup trial?
