Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

Finally… a Fitting.

March 2nd, 2011 @ 11:42 am by Mrs. Hippo

Even though my wedding is less than three weeks away, I hadn’t had a single dress fitting until last weekend. *gasp!* See, my dress arrived at the dress shop in Dallas in October just days after I returned to New York from a planning trip. And without a trip between October and February, the dress just sat at the shop waiting for me to come back. Of course I made sure to hit the dress shop when I was in D-town last weekend to get my dress altered and bustled. Wanna see?

I love my dress so much, and putting on MY dress (instead of the sample) was so exciting! Bridesmaid Angela was on hand to snap a couple of pictures on her phone as the seamstress showed me how the dress would look after it’s lifted up a bit and taken in. (Sweet! The dress has to be taken in!)

I really am happy… even though I look super serious.

The seamstress pinned up the train to show me what the bustle will look like. Me like-y!

When it’s taken in, my bustier won’t show in the back.

The only bummer was that the super sassy shoes I bought for the wedding are just a wee bit too tall for the dress, making my toes peek out from the bottom. As much as I hated to admit it, it didn’t look good. In fact, it looked pretty bad. Luckily, I had purchased a last minute just-in-case pair that are a tiny bit shorter and brought them with me to the fitting. They worked perfectly and the dress hem doesn’t need to be shortened at all. But, I’m not gonna lie… I’m not in love with the new shoes. They will totally do, but they don’t make my heart go pitter patter. But, at this point, I don’t really care. They are shoes. They are relatively comfortable. They are navy. They were on sale for $50. I’m not going to expend any more energy on shoes. In the big scheme of things, they are totally trivial. Did I mention my wedding is in less than three weeks and I’m letting go of all non-essential things to worry about?

I’m arriving in Dallas the Wednesday before the wedding, and I’ll be heading to the shop that afternoon to try on the dress again to make sure the alterations are perfect. If not, there are still a couple of days for adjustments. Fingers crossed that everything works out!

Did you have any issues with last minute alterations? Should I be stressed out about this?

I had to adjust my bustle a couple of days before the wedding and didn’t get to see the finished product until the day of! Turns out, there was a big lump smack dab in the middle of my butt where the seamstress must have sewn through the overlay of my dress or something. I was Freaking Out. (Bless whoever invented champagne!) Thankfully, my Mom had thought of bringing a sewing kit in the wedding day kit and I had a friend who knew how to sew, and she fixed it in a jiffy!

My advice? Bring a sewing kit just in case!! And champagne to calm you down! Haha. :)

You look absolutely gorgeous… I can’t wait to see you all done up in wedding day photos.

I like the shoes and they are very re-wearable and inexpensive I say you hit a score so no worries.

Ya’ll are so sweet!!! Thank you for all the kind words. I was a little nervous about posting these pics ’cause I had ZERO makeup on (’cause I was so scared about getting makeup on my dress) and had just thrown my hair in a crazy bun. Thank you for being so positive and supportive!!!

You look fantastic!! The alterations seem minor so I wouldn’t worry about that - and those shoes are truly lovely and totally your style!
