Packing the Invitations!?

March 3rd, 2011 @ 6:48 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

Hive, I’m still alive, I promise you. Lately, I’ve been so busy. There was a crazy awesome shower I can’t wait to tell you about and tons of other stuff going on. I clearly need to quit my job so I can wedding plan and blog full time.

Anyway, I have to talk a little about invitations today. Sure, I should be assembling my invitations this week, but I’m a FAIL bride seeing as I just sent them to print on Monday. I’m going to want to get them out ASAP because it took me forever to send them to print, which means I have to make decisions!

Oh wait, what? I’m horrible at making decisions.

You’d think designing the invitations was the hard part, you’s think when that part was over, that you’re on easy street. Well you’re wrong, or at least I was.

See, before you send out your invitations, you have to decided how to package them. Making this decision is literally making me uncomfortable because I simply cannot decide. If I haven’t been able to make my mind up in the last two years, I don’t know how I should expect myself to do it in a week, but I’ve gotta!

Here are our options, guys.

1. The ever popular belly band. Always classy, avoids the need for inner envelopes therefore saving you some money on postage. Source

2. You can also rock the belly band with ribbon. I love this. Source

7. The clear envelope. Easily the most hip option here.

Packing the Invitations!? : wedding chicago diy invitations stationery Vellum Envelope I know, I know, it’s almost too many options.

I’d love to know what you guys are doing! So, hive, how are you packaging your invitations?

Ha! to the “wedding law”. I do love baker’s twine, but I may just go with regular twine or even thread. Or there’s always (colorful?) paper clips.

Dude, was is it about baker’s twine that sucks us all in? I totally have a roll of Divine Twine in my possession now. I’m not even quite sure how it happened.

I went with baker’s twine for the wedding invitations and vellum envelopes for the rehearsal dinner invites. I couldn’t decide between them so I did both!

We’re doing a pocketfold..I heart it. But, that clear envelope makes me swoon and makes my invitations very jealous.

I feel decidedly unhip because I didn’t even know clear envelopes existed, let alone were trendy in wedding land. Go, me!

I had not heard of more than half of these! I only knew about #’s 1-4.

Hmm - I would say, whatever is least expensive b/c it’s essentially a “gateway” to the real invitation, you know? People are just going to toss away the string or inner envelope or etc. KWIM?

Gahhhh, I’m having the SAME problem! I have the outer envelopes already, but I need to figure out how to get all the other pieces together. SIGH. Also, we clearly read the same paper blogs — I have a lot of those invitations bookmarked, too! How amazing are those glassine envelopes?!

Um, I literally bought baker’s twine two days ago for my invitation packaging. It’s the “divine twine” in “oyster”–a light, bluey-grey mixed with white. I guess I’m a law-abiding, wedding-planning bride!

Oh, I love the vellum envelopes! We did baker’s twine, and I loved it-though it ended up costing more in postage because it was lumpy (though I think my post office was ridonk).

We ended up doing the belly band with ribbon! I let FI decide, and that’s what he picked :-).

If I keep seeing that baker’s twine I might just have to use it for something!

love the clear and vellum envelopes, but this may be a dumb question, does it cost more in postage does anyone know?

@Mrs. Pin Cushion: That is totally ridonk! The invitations we ended up mailing in envelopes had a huge bump on them, but didn’t incur any extra charges. Bad post office!

I saw that clear envelope the other day and wanted to come up with a project to use them. So sexy (if envelopes can be sexy)!

Ooohh the notched ribbon is so pretty, and something I haven’t seen before!

We used a plain belly band and the classic inner envelope.

Wow. Guess I’m behind on invitation trends. Those clear envelopes are fantastic.

Gah stop it Ms Giraffe!! I was stressing when all I had to choose from was inner envelope/belly band/pocketfold. Stop giving me MORE options.

Just kidding. I’m a sucker for invitation porn. ;)

I feel so out of place here! I just don’t get bakers twine…

I think you should totally go with either vellum or clear envelopes. It seems you love them so! You could also just use an invitation folder (not quite too pocketfoldy), close it with a belly band, put sexy ribbon on top of it and then finish it off with some bakers twine, THEN put it in clear envelope, and use vellum envelope for RSVP. Your guests won’t be overwhelmed with all these details at all… But it sure would be a good way to have a bit of everything!

Oh and I went with pocket fold, it hasn’t been done in my area so yay for me!

I used jute twine. Sort of like bakers, but more twine-y. It turned out really rustic/cute. I hope everyone loves them.
