Mrs. Thimble, NYC/Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie Wiz Engagement Date: August 22, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: The Pearl S. Buck House About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
About Mrs. Thimble

See a Penny, Pick It Up

March 3rd, 2011 @ 4:27 pm by Mrs. Thimble

Married life has opened the door to all new kinds of commitment for Mr. Thimble and me. We’ve been researching buying a home, which has led us to set up some long-term savings plans, I’ve been pondering my dream job that I can love for all time, and we fell in head over heels for a little puppy we’ve named Penny.

So no, this post is not about marital finances (phew!), or about good luck proverbs, but about our newest commitment and love of our lives. Hive, meet the newest edition to the Thimble family: bitty pretty puppy Penny!!

She’s a darling and a terror (is that where “terrier” comes from?). Her momma is a purebred Pug, her poppa is a purebred Miniature Pinscher, which makes Penny a Muggin, one of the latest of the “designer breeds” of the dog world. We just think she’s super cute.

Neither of us has ever had a puppy before, and Penny is proving to be an adorable challenge. It feels like training camp for our future human babies; and so far, I’m working by the book and taking advantage of Penny’s bully stick addiction, and Mr. Thimble can’t say no to this sweet little face. We’re meeting with a trainer next week, and puppy kindergarten starts in April. Fingers crossed for success. Anyone have any advice for training a bitey little puppy?

She’s sleeping in my lap with a case of the hiccups right now. Can’t. Handle. The cuteness!

Has nesting with your SO encouraged you to add a fur baby to the family? How is this next step affecting your relationship?

Oh my how precious!!! I want one!! The only advice I can give you is when potty training, make sure you praise her after she does her deed!

Really !?!?! i would steal her in a heartbeat. i am so obsessed with furbabies… the fiance and i have two.. oh boy do they run our worlds. they own us pretty much. two little princesses that weigh about 10lbs each and yet they take up all of our hearts (and blankets lol). I’ll admit that its not the easiest thing to train them but so worth it. enjoy the puppy cuteness =)

Sorry to voice my opinion but I wish you would have considered adoption and saved a homeless puppies life instead of purchasing one.

OMG, puppy!

So freakin’ jealous of your new fur baby! Dang it, why do I have to be so responsible and realize I don’t have time for a puppy right now, why!!

Get a water bottle & squirt her when she bites & say “No Bites” in a very stern voice. Puppy bites are like needles!
She is sooo super cute!!!

when she bites, make a loud yelp sound…like the sound a puppy would make. that’s how they learn boundaries. my dog would stop and then lick me wherever he just bit when i did that! the biting will stop with teething stops though.

awwwwwwwwww. so cute!
Lots of chew toys and reinforce NO!
Don’t leave things for her to chew. Half of the battle is not giving her anything to chew that she is not allowed to!
Our pup loved to nip/chew when she was younger as well. Thankfully she only tore one thing about. One of my favorite shoe! Just one, not the pair.

@kitzy:
Oh yes. Good one. We did that as well. We made SUCH a big deal out of it every time she nipped like she was seriously hurting us. hehe.

Your dog is so adorable! We recently got a puppy ourselves so I know what you’re going through. I totally agree when you said that this is like a training for children. Having a puppy from 9 weeks old has seriously made us rethink how many children we want and when.
