Mrs. Lox's Picture
Mrs. Lox, Baltimore Age and Occupation: 33, Government Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT Consultant Engagement Date: May 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
About Mrs. Lox

Sock It to Me

March 3rd, 2011 @ 11:09 am by Mrs. Lox

What is written here is a factual tale of what really and truly happened in my house. At this, clearly my shining-est hour, I am grateful that you all know me as Miss Lox. ‘Nuff said.

Mr. Lox and I have been ummmm… *disagreeing*… over socks. Yes, socks. You read it right. Now stop laughing and keep reading.

It all started when I realized that I am killing myself doing internet research for a few last items I would like for the wedding. They are, in priority order: a photo sharing site, socks, and an umbrella for Mr. Lox. And I thought to myself, “Self? Who is great at internet research and has completed their one and only wedding DIY project?” And myself answered back, “Why Mr. Lox, of course!” So I decided to ask Mr. Lox to help me with these three tasks. (P.S. – Indication #1 that you are losing it? Talking to yourself. Take note.)

I asked once, he said, “Of course!” A few days went by. I asked twice, he said, “Certainly!” A few more days went by. I asked three times, he said, “Sure!” Yet another handful of days passed here.

The fourth time, cue the disagreement. I don’t have to tell most of you what kind of insanity can ensue at roughly two months until the wedding, so we’ll gloss over the rest of this bit here.

So Mr. Lox was on the hunt. He found the photo sharing site that night. We’ll discuss that another day. Then he went on the sock hunt. Now here is a little known fact… pink and orange argyle socks for men do not exist. Or if they do, they are in an alternate universe somewhere and alternate universe me is looking high and low for white tube socks. I don’t know. I just know I can’t find them and neither can Mr. Lox. No, not even on that golf knickers site.

So Mr. Lox suggested solid orange. I reminded him (in a way that will only really happen after roughly four requests and roughly two months before your wedding) that I had specified argyle or at the very least patterned socks. (I know I didn’t write that in up there, but I did it. Trust me.) Mr. Lox then sent me to that golf knickers site because they have so many socks surely I must like at least *one* pair!

In Mr. Lox’s defense, they do have an awful lot of colors…

I fussed. We…. *disagreed*… some more. Then this happened:

Mr. Lox: I like the solid orange and these are going on my feet! Don’t I get a say in this?
Me: NO!
Mr. Lox: Why does it matter anyway?
Me: BECAUSE IT MATTERS TO ME!
Mr. Lox: No one is going to see my socks!!! It’s not like they’ll be in pictures!
Me: YES THEY WILL!
Mr. Lox: HOW???
(Take a moment to appreciate that he took so much longer to degenerate to all caps than I did… and continue.)
Me: BECAUSE I’M GOING TO ASK FOR A PICTURE OF THEM!

With that, my poor beloved Mr. Lox realized that he was up against utter, roughly-two-months-from-our-wedding insanity and continuing this… *disagreement*… would lead nowhere. So he left me to fume and search for socks once again on the internet.

On the upshot, I bought a pair of socks that night. They are what I thought was orange and yellow at the time but may in fact be orange and light green. I can answer conclusively on Friday. Now can we please not tell Mr. Lox that I think they are lady socks?

Have you gone over the deep end over something silly only to realize it halfway into the abyss? Please tell me about it and make me feel better. After all, it can’t be as insane as this sock… *disagreement*…

Why do the men agree to do things, and then make us nag them to do them, and then we have to do them anyway?????????????????????????????????????????

I had this same discussion yesterday, although not over socks. Grrr. And of course, bridal brain is not helping matters….

Oh boy…we have the same color scheme and went on the same hunt for argyle socks…only it was HE that was concerned with how they look (he loves his argyle socks)…we finally decided to just get them from “that golf knickers site”…he has orange/white argyle and the rest of the guys have orange/black argyle…and they do look super snazzy, so if those other ones don’t turn out I would reccomend the golf knickers :)

Well at least he is letting you have a say in his socks. I asked for patterned socks and all I got was a crazy look and a “No, I will be wearing black socks” answer. He hasn’t seen the pretty pics of a bride and groom showing off their colorful shoes (bride) and socks (groom)…nor would he care. This is one fight I will never win. sigh. :(

Maybe she’d be willing to make you a set of socks? I’d convo her on Etsy.

Im with @xtatic1 on this issue. I realized early on it would take me nowhere and decided to let go of raspberry socks. I still am, however, waiting for the digital map that FI *agreed* to work on. Invites are almost done and at this point, Im not even sure he knows Im expecting him to do them. So much for brides communicating eficiently. If only we werent so obsessed with details! Ugh it really is exhausting.

Ahh I went nuts about a bow tie. DH is a large guy, 6′5″ 350lbs, and decided he wanted to wear a bowtie. We discussed a year before the wedding that the standard bowtie was too small for his big head. He stated he would never wear the smaller bowtie. Needless to say I asked him about this bowtie often. He would find larger one’s that were designer and cost upwards of $400 which I couldn’t falthom spending on a bowtie for one stinking day. A week before the wedding, he still did not have a larger bow tie. My mother finally found one for about $6 at jcpenney. I look back and wish that our one big argument about the wedding wouldn’t have been about a bowtie, but something more important. In retrospect most of the things about the wedding that caused frustration were so silly.

Mine got orange and yellow socks, and he liked it. Because I said so. He admitted it after the pictures. :) I actually wanted blue and orange socks but “that golf knickers site” was sold out.

If the ones you bought don’t look right, I’d like to throw in my two cents and say the Black/White/Orange or the White/Orange look nice :)

Ohhhh we definitely had several of these, uh, disagreements right before the wedding. I promise it gets better!

And Mr. EB ended up wearing random smartwool socks since they fit his shoes better and it was really freaking cold. So I will look forward to seeing your pretty pictures since we didn’t do the pretty sock pictures!

Love the part about your Alternate Reality Self searching for white tube socks! LOL! Good luck on the search. Mr Bear ordered custom blue suede chucks (the rest of the guys will be wearing classic b/w ones), so he’s going with regular socks also.

FI and I were talking about ties for himself and the GMs and decided we liked an “apple green” one. He then mentions getting socks to go along with them and I almost fell out of my chair . . . never thought in a milliion years he would think it was a good idea! I told him that it was a “trend” in the wedding world to wear colorful argyle socks and he told me if I could find some in apple green he’d gift them to his groomsmen along with the ties. Now i just have to find them . . .

Heehee, this post is sooo funny! We got in a legit argument over the salad we were going to serve at our reception and the only compromise we could come to was to serve them both!!

A disagreement about Lox-Sox! HA I crack myself up! :-)
I didn’t know I had to think about socks. OH right I don’t because I don’t care as long as he wears socks that aren’t white……

Oh the sock argument.
FH was first against it but then when one of the dancers he most admires wore striped socks for a performance and then social dancing he was all on board. But he wants argyle, even though stripes are more “correct”.
So now we’re trying to find the perfect argyle socks- except all of the guys have HUGE feet (like 13 double wide).

LOL - Lox, you’re hilarious! I love how Mr. Lox had to be told how his socks would end up in pictures. Gotta love our men who need to be clocked with information in the form of a two-by-four all. the. time.

We’ve totally been there with the disagreements!
