About Mrs. Pain au Chocolat

After deciding on the British Virgin Islands as our honeymoon locale, we had a bit of a budget freak-out. That’s what happens when you fall in love with a destination before fully pricing it out. Our travel agent sent over six possible BVI resorts ranging from “ehhh, OK” to “spectacular.” There’s a big price gap between ehhh and spectacular!

Little Dix Bay - Our hands-down favorite! Gorgeous accommodations and views from the cheapest rooms, lots of included amenities, near the top end of our price range.

Scrub Island - We got a strong first impression of this newer resort; beautiful rooms and views, possible construction noise and working out kinks (but we’ve taken this gamble before, loved it, and saved big time).

Peter Island - Gorgeous rooms and views, on the expensive side (but cheapest meal plan), and rooms in our budget that have views of the busier marina area.

Biras Creek - Whoa expensive (out of our budget before factoring in airfare, but includes full board), rooms aren’t as nice as cheaper resorts, highly rated food/wine, excellent location, and they have Paso Finos!

Long Bay - Inexpensive (everything’s relative), lacks a wow factor, less amenities, and not as picturesque as other resorts.

Bitter End Yacht Club - Good views and great location, lots of amenities, rooms are a little tired, and resort is more family oriented.

Sailing! Beaches! Giant rock formations (imagining the photo ops)! Tasty food! Rum drinks! And relative seclusion. We’re in. When do we leave??

Which resort would you choose?

From the pictures it seems like you can’t go wrong with any of these! Little Dix Bay is definitely gorgeous. I could see myself making friends with a pool lounge chair at Long Bay!

Oh wow, looks like all of them would be spectacular! I don’t think you could make a bad choice, but I’d probably want to splurge and go with number one or three.

@Miss Tartlet, @CapeBride917 & @ReadyAsICanBe: LDB is our top pick.
@Mrs. Earrings: I’m still jealous you two honeymooned in Bali! :)

You know what our pick was. :) Although I also have friends who loved Peter Island.

Off of your descriptions, I’m guessing you didn’t pick either of the last two. But that’s just me. ;)

The first one is gorgeous, but I will admit I chuckled at “Little Dix Bay” and “Peter Island”.

I would pick Little Dix Bay.

My husband, me, SIL and her fiancé went sailing around BVI. I LOVE BVI. Make sure to visit Willy T floating bar in Norman Island!

@ILikePink: And Little Dix Bay is on Virgin Gorda. ;) heehee

@angelicduckie: Ooo, thanks for the recommendation on Willy T’s. I’ve seen it mentioned a few times on travel sites.

The one with the Paso Finos! But then again, I’m a major horse geek. :P

I would say that it depends on what you want to do. I love Virgin Gorda and Little Dix Bay is gorgeous and lush. BEYC is a fun place- Saba Rock is a great restaurant and it’s fun to get there. We usually just take a day trip and visit there- it is more family friendly, but fun. The people who bring children to these places usually have more grown up acting children than a lot of places.
Biras Creek is a little out of the way if you want to go to places like the Baths (although the island isn’t huge by any means.)
I am a little biased because Virgin Gorda is one of my favorite places on earth… we were going to go to St. John and VG but the hotel on St. John didn’t work out for the timeshare, so Cancun it is. (I can’t turn down a free week in someone’s timeshare!) Scrub Island looks amazing too!

@BelleoftheNorth: We like gorgeous and lush. Close to The Baths.
What a deal to have a timeshare opportunity for a honeymoon. We looked into using the family’s ski timeshare in another (tropical) location but it didn’t transfer into anything nice enough. Glad it worked out for you!!
